I have used wix gold filters forever and had good luck. In the last year or so I ordered the wix select filters for my daily drivers and a fleet of class 6 trucks I work on. They are no longer made in USA and come from all over the place now. So I order a couple Wix gold for my Buicks and one is made in USA and looks the same as all others I have had (51040) and the other is made in China and physically looks different. I don't care if companies ship production off shore to save money but now I am paying premium price for sub par junk. Just passing it on.

Here is a link to the Wix web page for feedback. I do feel it's important the we make the company aware that we are (formerly) loyal customers, who are now deeply disappointed in the poor quality they are shipping...

Everything is being run by bean-counters. They will never understand.

Unfortunately, mark my words. It’s going to burn them in the long…and short run. And ultimately me and my Napa store. I’m just about maybe tomorrow to pull the trigger on my more than annual factory direct 12K+ order of Gold filters order. But now not before I talk to my rep. Very sad…. If this affects my industrial filters, it won’t happen. I’ll frickin outsource a U.S.A. Made filter as that is what my customers will want. Especially my industrial customers.

Heres the thing. I don't know what's going on with Wix management. My guess is best case they were forced to do the China route because they are loosing too much business to competitors. Worst case they were bought out and the new management only cares about profit. I'm sorry to say this will only get worse.

Such changes do not only burn the companies in the long run. It hurts everyone in the business(es) all the way down to the guy under his car doing his thing, or the shop doing the ting for others, or the jobbers providing the parts, and the "buyers/retailers" filling the needs to the down level folks.
It simply screws everyone, except the people insulated by the process of investing in a money market rolled up investment.

Pogo was right, he was always right, all this time. But no one wanted to hear about the negative, and doom and gloom.

Bean counters do understand when people stop buying their beans.

Yes. Although it often is realized after the damage is done, and the market base moves on, leaving those purists/loyal, and those that produced the better product, to suffer, while the fickle and unimpressed continue to consume without a care.

(I am olde and have become a stoic cynicist. I still hope for the best, but am not surprised at the worst. And I am gonna ride this crazy train all the way to the crash!)

I went to my local Napa and some on the shelf are Made in USA and others are China. Maybe some will still be made here. Wix/Napa are made by Mann & Hummel. I have moved to Champion labs for my filters now. Made in USA

Did you find any 1258 filters made in China, or was it various other part numbers?
Not defending, but I’ve only seen USA on the Wix/Napa filters for our Buicks but I’m a tiny sample size.

I constantly have to try and research and source parts and finding them made in USA or Canada. Sometimes it leads me to buy out old inventory,as I know what the later products will be.
I have always stood by the belief that if you provide a superior product or service, you will have no problem making money. I will stand by that until I’m dead. This world has gone away from that. Bean counters looking at numbers and figuring out ways to make better numbers. Doesn’t matter if it’s auto parts or a hospital. They all do it. Their objective is to make money, but they have lost the fundamentals of how to do it. The first question out of everyone’s mouth is price. I could care less what the price is. Is it the best? Do you want to do it over and over again? Do you value your time? It’s just flat out pathetic.

I couldn’t agree more. We all came up with names like Edelbrock, Weiand, Offehhauser, Lunati, Isky, Alston, etc. all representing family names. Hell, even Buick, Chevrolet, Ford, Mercedes-Benz , Porsche etc. built loyalty based in large part, on their namesake. They all had their own issues of course, but the names and reputations meant something to both the owners and customers. Somehow it’s just not the same with hedge funds owning entities like Holley and their litany of different brand names. Nothing personal, just business - even for the employees - as the “money” leans heavily on the old name recognition and reputations.

I’m not surprised this has happened. The ‘bean counters’ are everywhere, and part of the blame is when they’re hired as buyers for fleets. Guy alluded to it when he said he’s about to place his big fleet order. I used to work at a huge Wix supplier in Atlanta, and we had contracts with numerous cities, counties and fleet owners who were loyal to us. We did huge volume and had a seperate company set up as a Wix Farm and Fleet just to get the volume discount and rebates. We were as competitive on Wix as could be, and we started losing business. When we’d ask why, the story was always ‘I want Wix, my guys want want Wix, but we’ve got this new ‘manager’ or ‘supervisor’ or ‘auditor’ who demands we buy cheaper’; we’d ask for their price lists to compare, and we couldn’t match Luberfiner or Baldwin’s prices, even selling at cost to get the volume. So all these fleet accounts were going to them and taking their light duty (passenger car and light truck) business with them. Some of these fleets were putting sub$2 filters on cop cars and delivery trucks.

Thanks for the link! Gave them an earful. It wouldn't hurt if others who have concerns about Chinese "quality" should do the same. Now I just have to figure out what I am going to start using. I have a few Purolators that Larry the Wizard directed us to on a Rock Auto clearance, but after those, that's it. No clue what to do after that for convenient, trustworthy, off the shelf oil filters without having to procure from Amazon or some other venue where I can;t lay my eyes and hands on it.

One option, albeit more expensive, is to buy a reusable filter from Steve Reynolds. To me, the investment is justified by never having to buy an oil filter again and the peace of mind from not worrying about the quality of normal filters.
