The 1/4mi track that I ran at with the old combo opens on the 20th of this month but is now a 4hr drive instead of 1 1/2hr drive but I do intend on going before it gets real hot to compare the changes. Keith
What a kick in the @$$ and all I can do is laugh! I have the secondaries disconnected to work on the hesitation but just trying to give it throttle off a stop or anything less than 3rd gear just brakes the tires loose. JW convertor that flashes to 3400rpm and 3:23 gears. What's this thing gonna do when I put in the 3:73's? Are the drag radials gonna hold? Too much fun! Keith
I'd hold off on the 3.73's for now unless your majority track. Go as quick as you can with your 3.23's first.
Woo Woo!!!!!!! Whucha thinkings Keith!?!? Low low 13's?? without tuning?!? and still with the 3:23's??
That's exactly what I'm thinking!!! Track is 5300ft elev. with usually around 7000ft DA. Old build with stock heads, dual plane and flat tappet cam went a best of 14.1, 98mph. Will be taking it back to that track for comparisons. Working on tuning out the hesitation right now and still having a blast! Mike sr. took the time today and had a damn near hour long conversation with me about the results I got, the alum. heads, SP3, the roller cam and rockers and his thoughts on them. Great guy! Had some good stories too. And he has a pallet of 350 head castings waiting to get machined. As a dear old friend of mine used to say, These things are the cat's meow! Keith
Had to stop playing with my new found toy of wasting tire tread and get serious about tuning. Moved the AFR meter up to a temporary spot in front of heater controls, tach is on column, vacuum gauge in dash where clock would be. now all 3 are right there. AFR 13.2-13.8 at 2800 rpm, 60 mph. Got on it enough to open secondaries but not WOT, pulled strong, a lot more than before, took it to 4000 rpm before I had to shut down for traffic. AFR still in the mid 13's. Keith
Opening day at the 1/8th mile track was sat. It's 2 1/2 hrs away compared to the 1/4mi track at 4hrs away. went there to check it out. GOT BITTEN BADLY!! Pulled out the shift light and today rounded up the fittings for the line lock. Got the carb dialed in real close for around town, if I go leaner on the jets for low speed it will lean it out to much for mid and WOT. I need to get to the track so I can finish the tuning, will probably have a race and non race tune. It is very responsive with a very slight hesitation at WOT but I can't stay in it long enough around here. The carb also really likes the orange pump cams. Keith
