I thought I better start my own thread about the progress of my current project. Its an 84 T-type, that has been caged, ladder bar rear with a 12 bolt and 4:10 gears. Frame rails were moved in 4in on eacn side and raised 2in. 2in drop spindles in the front with a coil over conversion so I can dial in my ride height. Tubular Contral arms upper and lower, I found those on racing junk. Just look for g-body control arms. The guy goes as profab I belive. Also hve seen them on ebay before. The control arms really helped with installing my headers but I still had some grinding to do on a couple of the rear lower mounts. My engine was built by Eric Ruge, he is a second generation buick engine builder from Eureka KS. RUGE Automotive. The motor consists of a 76 block that has a girdle, block filled 1\2 way, oliver rods, 38 over pistons, ta s608 cam, Stage2 heads with little port work. Roller rockers, ta wildcat intake. I am going to run an MSD distrubutor with 6al box for now. The trans will be a T400 manual shift, ultra bell, with 9" converter set up by Neil Chance Converters. I am hoping to go deep into the 10's with this project and if I am lucky maybe crack off a 9.90 in some cool weather. Should be a really fun ride. :3gears:
Oh yeah, that looks like alot of fun!! :TU: Kind of makes me want to order up some full length headers too!
OH yeah, tell us what's up with the bell housing, I can't stop staring at it!!!! :spank: I'm looking for a drive-shaft loop, just FYI for all of us G-body hounds, METCO has a bolt in for our cars. Rock on! :3gears:
Sorry David, I keep seeing more stuff I want to ask you about. Tell us alittle about the manual braking system.......
Davey, The bell housing is an Ultrabell. It is SFI approved and replaces a scatter sheild so all I need is a blanket to be 9.99 legal. YOu actually cut off the housing from your trans and bolt it directly to the pump. If need a closer pic let me know. I actuall broke my bell housing a couple of years ago when a crank broke in my GS at the 1000' mark in Noble Ok. at the Buick VS. Ford. event. So instead of trashing the case I put it back to gether with the bell. The brake system was allready in place when I picked the car up. But I believe that it was a mopar master cylinder and not sure where the mounting bracket came from, but I can find out. A local muffler shop is going to make a driveshaft loop for me. They plan on selling them themselves for g body cars.
Dave I have been searching for those pro fab A arms everywhere. Are they the same as the TRZ A arms. If not do you mine me asking how much you payed for them? Also do you have any head on shots of your roll cage. I want to see how close it is to the front pillars. Maybe a inside shot of dash area?
Terrance I will see if I can find the email address from the guy I got the arms from. I paid 575for the uppper and lowers.
Quick question fro you... changing form a 6 cylinder to the 455 how hard was it and do the 455 motor mounts bolt right in? Dan
Thanks David. Just what I needed. If it's not to much to ask I need one more shot. of this area. I'm trying to see how it needs to be set up. Looks like yours is just what I'm shooting for. These seem to far in.
can you post some pics of trans/ultrabell? i busted up a 400 with a low gearset in my regal awhile back and cut rest off with sawsall and was going to get a bell for it too but didnt know if i damaged/cutoff too much metal for it to work right. thanks andy
Terrance my roll cage was installed in mind to keep the stock dash, and it was also a prebent kit not a custom one. Moving the front bars back can make it more difficult to get in. If you want a stock type dash i would just trim it to fit. If you go with a alm dash then there will be no problem with what you have. Andy, I will look for some pics before the bell was installed. You basiclly cut around the front pump housing where it bolts in. that is where your ultra bell will bolt to also. It is a cut to fit kind of piece.
Nice job Dave,I like the fuel cell mounting. I've always said leave the sump above the trunkfloor so you can mount the fuel system in the trunk out of harms way.
