I cannot find any good details on the convertible windshield installation and header bow. To make a long story short, what goes on top of the header bow? Is there weatherstripping at the top (not attached to the convertible top)?

    Pictures would help.

Umm, sorry I can't help but I do have the same question about a 72. The stuff was rotted through, along with the metal. I had it repaired and just painted but I would like to find out more about getting the proper stuff for the top of the windshield.

    Thanks

At the top of the windshield, where the top meets when it is closed, there is just a plain piece of vinyl. The header on the top itself has a large piece of rubber weather stripping. There are also rubber seals that attach to the tops of the posts on either side of the windhield.

What I was talking about is the vinyl piece that was rotted away on top of the windshield. Is there any type of replacement piece out there for this or are you better off to paint it? Thanks for the reply and the help! :TU:

Guy's it would be nice if you put your names so I know who I am talking (writing) to.

To clarify, at the top of the bow, and on top of the vinyl, there is a rubber weatherstripping that goes onto the metal interior peices.

    Yes?

Oh, do not just paint it black.

Not many folks realise it, but that bit of vinyl is also a seal.

It goes under the chrome at the top of the windsheild. If this piece of chrome is not trapping the vinyl, water will creep up under the chrome trim, and possibly rot out the header, or even get under a new header bow seal on the roof

Mine was half-a$$ installed for years and I couldn't figure out where the drip srip drip was coming from. i broke down and replaced it (not a hard job) and the drip is gone. Not only that but it looks slick and factory

New vinyl is cheap and available, but you'll have to custom fit it. It's easy. At the end caps, you simply fold and tuck

Make sure the vinyl goes below the trim mounting clips. I cut notches in it to make sure it was far enough. Then use silicone sealant to make a waterproof seal. Took two hours from cutting vinyl to trim replacement

    Chris;

I got that part done. I am concerned with the inside parts. Here is a photo of where I am talking about.

If you don't want to make a piece for this, they are absolutely available. i have seen them for sure. Give me a little bit and I'll find it, but I know they make them pre-cut.

Looks good. I wish my cowl was that nice

Do you mean the curved stamped metal parts on either side of the rear view mirror post?

If so, then yes, you just paint them. No seal, the heaer seal should take care of it. You shouldn't have any leaks, it looks like you've done everything pretty well :TU:

Thanks for the response. If Knobby-San is what you are called, I will call you that. Any nice Buicks in Japan?

Unfortunately I have not even seen a Buick in the year I have been here (of course I have been at sea for a good amount of that). I was hoping to see some in Australia, I know they have a few clubs in that country, but no joy there either. So I just keep getting parts for my baby and have them shipped to my buddy in Jacksonville Florida who takes care of her back home. I love this website and the folks on it, helps with the 'Buick DT's'. :Comp:

    Rob

FANTASTIC! Thanks. I am going to write myself a note on it and try to get one ordered for future installation. For now the baby is shut away in storage out of the elements AND under a car cover so she should be OK until I get it installed.

Again thank you all for all the help and to keep me stoked on my Buick, hopefully I will have pictures (of the correct size) to post soon. :beer

    Thanks again guys
