Will 73 Riviera Rally rims fit a 68 Electra?

Hello, I found a 73 Riviera being parted out near me and it has decent 15” 5 on 5 Rally’s on it. Will they fit on a 68 Electra? I looked at the rally wheel chart and I’m not sure if the differences will make them incompatible.

    thanks,

    Rob

They aren't the "correct" wheels for that year, but will fit. 68 center caps won't fit on the wheels properly, but 71-73 centers would.

Thanks, the difference in the diameter of the hub won’t be a problem? Since the 73 is larger I would assume that it just means that all the weight of the car will be on the lugs instead of the hub ring? I can shim it out 1/2” if the offset is too deep, in which case I’ll get a proper diameter ring machined for the rim to fit over.

I have bookmarked the center cap webpage and plan on buying the correct ones for the rims. I believe that if I special order them I can get the proper E logo for the Electra. Otherwise I’ll get the tri shield.

There never was a center cap produced with an "E". If that is what you'd like, that would have to be custom made. Tri shields for LeSabres and Electras are available as reproductions.

It can be, mine is not. I’m going to get a Scarebird kit for it.

I saw it in an old post on here about center caps from another Electra guy, I thought that’s what they were supposed to have. The Tri shield will look good though.

The 73 wheels AND caps will fit on the rear . But the problem with the front wheels is the dust cap on the hub stands out farther and prevents the center cap from being installed .

That being said you san take the dust caps from a 71 and up big car , cut the outer "Dome" off . Then take the dust caps from your 68 and cut the outer portion off and weld the 68 hub portion to the 71-up outer portion and the center caps will fit . Once you have an example of each in your hand you will see the difference . Its what I did on my 69 Electra that has the same front hubs as your 68 .

Correct emblem would be the Tri shield . Only other ones available would have been the "R" for Riviera and the Wildcat head for the Wildcat .

I’ll try and find it again, I got pretty deep into the old posts. It was from 2009 I think.

Reading it again after talking to you guys, I think that he’s talking about a wheel code and I thought it was an E on the center cap like the R on the Riviera caps.

Wheel code for 66-70 cars is 853 . Wheel Code for 71-up is 895 . The 853 code fo 66-70 cars fits both Disc and drum cars .

I thought I responded to your post, my mistake. The post about the Electra center caps is up 2 comments.

    How do I do that?

I found a place about an hour from my house that will sandblast and polished powder coat the rims shiny silver, it’s not quite chrome, but it’s shinier than silver paint. At $100 per rim I think it is a good price. The shiny chrome powder coating is $250/rim and actual chrome is probably more than the car is worth.

YES . You can " TWEEK " The tangs a bit . I have the Big 66-70 Center caps on my 895 wheels with the 2 inch hole . These are on my 69 Electra and have been for over 30 years . . The difference is only 1/8 of an inch so it doesn't take much . A tiny bit on each of the 12 tangs is enough .

Thanks, I have steelies with hubcaps right now, so these will be an upgrade. I’m glad that they should fit the Scarebird kit. The wheels don’t have center caps, so I’ll just order the right size ones with the tri shield. I’ll run them without for now.
