Why does my 350 knock for 3 seconds when I start it? Oil pump or worse?

Go on eBay and get Nos ac delco. Seen for about 40 depending on seller.

I'm surprised also. I always thought of Wix as a great filter. Then again, I haven't had to buy an oil filter in many years as I use the System1 filter. I do use Wix filters in my 98 Riviera, but that filter points straight down so it is always full upon start up.

interesting. So what are you saying the wicks filters too good and creates a delay in oil pressure on start up?

Not too good... I feel they can't compete with Frams anti drain back feature. I'm willing to bet that is what the issue is. I just can't see being a good filter being an issue unless it restricts oil flow, even then it should show on the oil gauge.

how do you tell the NOS pf-24 from the new pf-24?

Aqua says the new pf-24 are also no good.

I just looked at the system1 filter. Do you use the 30 micron one? How do you like it and is it easy to clean? Do they have a lifespan or infinitely reusable?

That is odd because I have no noise now. On the other hand, now that I think of it, I never had a problem until my last oil change when I started using the Wicks per NAPA know how counter guys advisement. There might be something to this.

I always insisted on AC Delco oil filter and they said they dont carry that kind and that it sucks and I should buy made in usa wicks napa gold because they were the best as their heads all nodded in unison. So I went with it. How could I have been so foolish to ignore my inner voice like that!?

You're going to find all kinds of opinions on oil filters. Strong posting style has had people slamming several different brands. Some claiming Wix as the end-all and be-all, some claiming and some blaming the Fram. You don't need to get second-guessed on what parts to buy for your ride. Just buy parts with a warranty behind them and put 'em on. It's funny that I'm seeing Fram coming up as good now. They've gotten slammed left and right in the past. I've used Fram filters for over 4 decades and have never suffered an oil-related failure.

If I had given a recommendation for a fuel pump, I would have said AC, but I don't recall seeing it in the list. Airtex is also good. I agree with Jason's recommendations, in essence.

not to hijack my own thread but speaking of fuel pumps, should they be silent or is it normal for them to make a ticking sound? Lately Ive been listening to my engine a lot while weve been trying to analyze this phenomenon that many others of you have experienced and I notice that on the drivers side there is a steady rubbery fump fump fump from what seems like the fuel pump area. Is that normal or should fuel pumps be silent, seen and not heard.?

Fuel pump will sound kinda fump like . remember that it is basically a plunger. It move air as it pushes one way then it move fuel as it goes the other. Like a plunger.

ok so its normal then. You can hear your fuel pump when your engine is running and you are standing next to the hood?

Have you tried using a stethoscope to listen around the engine to id the location of the sound?

I had always used the Fram filter too until people here were complaining about them. WhenI did use the Fram filter I used their racing filter and this filter is longer than the stock filter, never had a problem and I have used it for a very long time.
