Who makes the best headers?

I am looking for a set of headers for my 70 GS 455. I always thought TA had the best fit & quality. I was a local show this week and a guy had a 70 GS 455 with TA headers. One of the drivers side tubes was rubbing on the steering shaft. So give me your opinion, who has the best headers? (fit & quality).

T/A or Hooker Or Build your Own Header's. I have not seen a Stage 1 header that Rubbs. Are you talking Stage 2 Header's. I have Flanges for Stage 1 and Stage 2 heads to Build your own

I haqve a set of Kenne Belle headers and they don't rub the steering shaft, cause I put a dent in them. I think all brands of headers will fit better if your motor mounts, and body mounts are up to snuff, as the factory put it togeather. Cars get old, bushings start getting compressed, motor mounts are compressed or even replaced with mounts which may not be exactly the same dimensions as original factory. If your car is a fresh correct restoration, you might still have problems because headers are made by people. :Dou:

I have KB 2" "pulse" headers on mine, I didn't have a problem with the shaft hitting, but I had to trim the corners on the upper A arms a little so when the arms moved they wouldn't cut holes in the headers. I don't know if these headers are even avalible anymore.

Isn't KB out of the Buick business? I have T/A 1 7/8" Stage-1 type headers and also had problems hitting steering shaft as well as brake valve on frame and also hit frame on passenger side. Had to "persuade" them with a hammer now all is right with the world. Possibly new motor mounts might help as well. They do have good ground clearance and clear the oil dipstick tube as well. Maybe they vary from batch to batch. Just do yourself a favor and test fit before you have them coated. I didn't. :ball:

I have always used poston headers. No problems with the tubes touching anything, never had to dent them to make it fit. Passenger side slips right in when motor is slightly lifted and drivers side takes some persuasion as it wants to hit steering column, only while installing though or thoe casting bumps on blocks (the ones everyone says to grind off for easier header install). I do have some ground clearance issues with them but not all that bad, I do have to carefully navigate speed bumps or big dips in road. I've smacked them on the pavement an aweful lot and they took the abuse for quite some time. Finally replaced a set when the cracked from the pavememnt smacking and when they crushed a tub considerally. The car has new springs in it now and will have aluminum heads so hopefully it will sit a tad bit higher in the front. From experience though I will stick with Poston headers since they've been tried and work with no issues.

I ordered the 1 7/8 tube headers from TA yesterday. I got them bare so I can have them jet hot coated after a test fit. We'll see what happens. :Do No: Thanks for all the feedback.
