Sanford drag strip southwest of Raleigh, N C. circa 1966-67. The blue car on the right was the track C stock champion with a long-standing bounty offered to anyone who could defeat him. The car was named “The Rapid Rocket” and was a 3 Deuce trac pak. He ran low 12s to high 11s at 113-115 mph. The black car on the left is maybe, “Mr Black” another 3 Deuce 442.

My 65 GS loved that Sunoco 260 ! You could feel the difference in power!.....I remember it being in the mid 40's range price-wise in the '60s

I often bought a dollars worth of 260 which at the time was all that I could afford.

Oh, yeah. On Thursday (day before payday) I had to put 230 in the Stage 1 and my friend, who I beat every other day, would bet me to work down Palm Beach Lakes Blvd. He drove a '71 Challenger RT, but not the 6-pack. On Friday night, with 260 in the tank, watch out! I think it was about 50 cents/gallon in '72-'73, but then the crisis came and waiting in line was pretty hard as I needed gas every 3 days...

    Great times!

Today, VP is $5.00 for 93, 11.00 for 100, and 12.00 for leaded 112. I mix them in my car, keeping the fill-up to about 100.00-. Times change...the cars are still awesome, however, and always will be.

    Cheers!
