    From the NHRA website

When do I need a roll bar or roll cage, and what should it look like?
A roll bar is required in any convertible running 13.99 seconds or quicker in the quarter mile, and in other cars beginning at 11.99. The roll bar is accepted in vehicles running as quick as 10.00 second e.t., provided the stock firewall and floorboard is intact, other than for installation of wheel tubs. The rollbar must be constructed of minimum 1 inch o.d. x .118 inch wall mild steel tubing, or 1 x .083 chrome moly tubing, and must conform to the following diagram:

If the floor and/or firewall has been modified, then a full roll cage is required beginning at a 10.99 e.t. A full roll cage is required in any vehicle running 9.99 seconds or quicker, and any vehicle running 135 mph or faster (regardless of e.t.). The roll cage must be constructed of minimum 1 5/8 o.d.x .118 mild steel tubing, or 1 5/8 x .083 chrome moly tubing, and must conform to the following diagram:

The roll cage of any vehicle running 9.99 or quicker, or 135 mph or faster, must also be certified by NHRA every 3 years, and have a serialized sticker affixed prior to participation.

Thank you Greg. Is that from the 2007 rulebook?

Keith, That was from the NHRA web site listed under the FAQ section.

Not trying to confuse anyone just wanting to let you know that their is conflicts with-in the NHRA info on the website.

Looks like we need to confirm with an actual rulebook.

But just found this on the NHRA website as well

    Adjustment to E.T. requirements
In a move designed to encourage more street vehicles to compete on the quarter-mile, NHRA has revised its requirements for roll bars, SFI Spec clutches, driveshaft loops, driver restraints, and certain protective clothing.

Beginning Jan. 1, 2005, a roll bar and an SFI 16.1 driver-restraint system will be mandatory on any vehicle running 11.49 or quicker and for convertibles running 13.49 or quicker. An SFI 3.2A/1 jacket will be mandatory for all drivers in vehicles running between 10.00 to 11.49 seconds. On any car running 11.49 or quicker, a flywheel and clutch meeting SFI Spec 1.1 or 1.2 and a flywheel shield meeting SFI Spec 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, or 9.1 will be mandatory. A driveshaft loop will be required on all cars running 13.99 or quicker and utilizing slicks, except vehicles equipped with street tires running 11.49 or slower.

Thanks again. I quit buying the rulebooks a few years back; the only difference I could see from year to year was the price!!

John that is no longer the ET rule it has been changed to 11.50 so 11.49 you need a roll bar and with the roll bar you would need seat belts also. hope this helps. John

If you decide you need a roll bar then buy a rule book from a NHRA track or join the NHRA. There is more to installing a roll bar then just bolting/welding it in. There are other requirements that go along with the roll bar installation such as safety helmet, padding, seat bracement, etc, etc, etc. Don't take someone's word for what you need, if your required to have a roll bar then buy a rule book so you will pass tech inspection and foremost be safe. I know they sell them at Beech Bend for $5.00 I think, so other tracks should be about the same.

    Thanks John, yes it does.

I thought that was the case, and I would be within the rules. I wasn't planning on going much faster than high 11's, my cars way too original to cut and weld on it. This should hold me for awhile. (I hope) I am oh so very happy again!

    Regards, John.:TU:
