    Pete,

My 2 cents is to stay with the stock AFB. Changing over to something else means you have to bojack together something to make your Switchpitch linkage work. I have changed out carbs 2 times to new Edelbrock replacements (didn't learn the first time) and never had much luck with them. Sticky floats, wrong jet sizes, etc. My lastest acquistion had an Edelbrock carb and it was way overjetted. I rebuilt an AFB, installed it and now it runs smooth as silk. I say rebuild your original AFB. You'll be much happier.

    Pete,

The vacuum for the distributor advance comes from the carb, not the manifold. If you can swing it, I'd highly recommend Daytona Auto Parts in Daytona, FL to rebuild your AFB. They will rebush it so it won't leak and jet it properly to run on the 300 as original. It also looks just like a new carb when you get it back. I have had a couple AFBs done by them as had a couple of my buddies and everyone was very pleased with the results. Dollar wise I seem to remember around $400 for the rebuild. Call them for a price. That isn't too bad when you figure what you have to spend for a new Edelbrock or Holley and you still have to figure out the linkage. As I mentioned in my last post, I was also not impressed with the out of box runability of the Edelbrock carbs on my '65 300 (355).
