Lots of interior work today. I installed my OEM Sonomatic radio with the Aurora Designs tuner internals. It's really cool to have the old look with a modern tuner....plus the push buttons work. Also installed a new speedometer cable and glove box liner.
Removed the MSD 6AL,the corresponding ignition parts and wiring from under the dash as well as the Autometer gauges getting ready to install a new MSD digital 7 and updated gauges.Making room for the intercooler under the dash. I also started making the templates for the mid plate. Still waiting for the last pieces for the fuel lines to and from the regulator. Progress is being made..
More over the weekend, but finished off the new carpet, new dash pad, new sound deadener in the '69. Still stiff and sore from it.
I put a new battery in it. Before I got it it running, the carb mounted starter switch stuck, ... I'll have to take it a part and clean it, And the solenoid wasn't engaging like it should. So, that'll need attention , too.
Ordered some of the stuff needed for going with an overdrive transmission. Snowed in and too cold to do anything else.
Put on a new carb, all new rearend bushings and hung out with a couple of my local buick brothers. Excellent day
Figuring out why my left turn signal illuminates whenever I turn the lights on. It blinks when you turn the signals on. I pulled all the bulbs checked then replaced, still the same issue. I took the light housing apart checked reassembled and tested on a battery, it appears the light frame will not ground. I wrapped a piece of wire around the tube where the bulb fits into and it works. Somehow the bulb ground isn’t contacting the light frame.
Mounted the Fat Bastard 455 onto the run stand and got it to fire off. Only ran it for a few seconds. Dist is a tooth off and I had installed the wrong oil filter so when it cranked oil spit out all over the floor.
Finally found the 2 missing correct GM belts I needed for the 1973 Survivor from Dave in Georgia here on the board, installed and worth it. The old Gates cog belt was gonna give up soon anyway.
Replaced the carpet. Added bench seat extenders for a little more legroom. Put 3-point seat belts up front (Morris Classics).
Been going thru boxes of parts / new stuff I've bought over the years - trying to organize it all in one place. I have a LOT, which is good. Need to get out in the shop (cold / no heat except a pot belly) & template/cut the aluminum for my door panels.
Bought wheel bearing for my Invicta from Kanter in NJ so many years ago, the inner seals were rusting in their plastic bag. Got them cleaned up/oiled. Also had some Kanter wheel bearings that came in banged up but sealed 'tuna' cans. Opened one tonight because I swore they were packed dry but no- in oil. Nice New Departure USA bearings dated 1965.
