What did you do to your Buick today?

Finished off my passenger seat in record time. Just installed seat in car this morning and finished off with plastic trim. Busted my but to get it tore down, cleaned up, painted and reupholstered so that I can take my father in law who's visiting for the weekend for a cruise this weekend. It will be his first time seeing it fully restored, first time riding in it and possible his last (major health issues).

Total time spent over past two weeks was about 16 hours for passenger seat...Driver seat took me 20 hours about 4 months ago. LOL

Started up the Wildcat, and am driving the Electra to a car show today; - not as a participant, just as a spectator.

My son helped me pull the 455 out of my Skylark today. It developed a pinhole in one of the cylinder walls. It was a supposed good running engine I bought for it to temporarily get it driving again after the 464 had a rod exit the oil pan. Throwing together a stockish 455 and hopefully having it running again by next weekend. I'll have my Stage 2 heads here in a few weeks but the 482 short block Jim is building for me is still pretty far out. I just want to drive it again!

Installed the power steering belt in the Buchev. Did a little chrome polishing. All I need now are the electric fans. Tracking says they're in Nashville, TN. Hopefully I'll have them by next Wednesday. Then I will have to figure out how to mount them and make the mounting brackets. At least now I can move it around the yard under it's own power.

Update: I noticed that the 56year old aluminum thermostat housing has developed a slight leak. Today I ordered an aluminum billet housing from Russ Martin.

Hard to see but we’re in there. Got my father in law, his son and grandson for a quick ride on Father’s Day. Plus picked up an extra rider (grasshopper) along the way.

I drained 6 quarts of expensive break in oil even though the engine has never even been started. Apparently you are supposed to ship engines dry.

Didn’t do anything on the Buick this weekend but did start prepping my ‘01 Safari van for a new core support, the original is crispy, they don’t make new aftermarket so I gotta go used, which is fine.
Every time I’d hit a bump or a whooptie doo on the road the subframe would move upwards and pop out my lights:eek:
Don’t really want to replace it given the condition of the van but it runs like a champ and I can’t afford a new to me vehicle, plus I like doing this o_O

Finally had some time to spend in the garage tonight. Got the CARHEX steering box mounted and connected, and replace the idler arm.

Found out a compression fitting cannot handle the pressure of the power steering system. :(
Cleaned up a lot of power steering fluid and replaced the hose.

Ugh... cleaning up power steering and transmission fluid sucks. Glad you got it fixed.

Got final coat of satin black on the firewall done.

Jumped to figuring out how/where to mount speakers in the doors. Compounding the issue is that door panels will be scratch-built, and the inner door skin is far from flat where it has to go, plus is getting mad close to the window regulator 'gear'. Would like to replicate the mylar areas on the door panel with something similar... found a ribbed stainless sheet... but the metals place wants $675 for a 4'x8' sheet. They had a 'decorative' metal sheet (pic below) that I thought would be cool to use... then I found out a 4'x8' sheet was 3 grand. Scratch that.

I was finishing up installing a stockish 455 in my Skylark today so I can actually drive it again then I went to the dragstrip (Cecil County) with my Wife and my Son. They both ran their personal bests tonight. Chris ran 12.25 @110 in his 464 powered 85 Regal with unported small valve heads, Lanuti cam and SP1 intake. My Wife ran 12.65 at 115 in her 2020 Mustang GT, she just started racing last year. Great night. thumbnail (10).jpg
