I had to make one for my 83 Regal out of square tubing. Not fun but turned out good.

If I remember correctly the crossmember for the TH400 is basically the same as the crossmember for a 2004r. If that's the case than any '84 and up G-body should work. It's just a matter of it having the correct exhaust clearances for your application.

its part right, you do need the one for the 2004r which will be in most( and i say most not all) of the v8 cars. the v6 (unless its a turbo car) and a hand full of the v8 cars will have the 200 metric trans which is the one you use when your putting in the th350. you will have to alter it if you run duals or you can just buy the aftermarket ones they sell at summit or jegs. i have a gforce one which is a pretty nice piece.

Thanks for adding that. I'm going off info for a different car (B-body) so I'm not clear on the G-body details.

No problem at all, i have owned about 30 different gbodys at this point and have done quite a few swaps. It used to be fun when you could pick up cheap regals with blown up v6s (we all know about those great oil pumps) and dropping in a buick 350. i can do it in a weekend in my sleep at this point. :TU: i have to admit of all the possible swaps putting my 455 buick motor in my regal took me the longest and most parts changing. that motor just really wasnt ment to go in there. especially with headers.

We use the GN (2004r) ones with the TH400 trans.Just knotch and plate drivers side for exhaust.Use H&R Parts trans mount with it.Works good for us.

You can run the Jegster crossmember for $129.

If you look around G-body sites you can find used ones for around $100 or so.

There is a guy on MalibuRacing.com, look at the sponsors along the top...

Iceman Racing that makes a light-weight cross-member for about $129 that have been stress tested in many really fast drag cars.

For the 400/200R4 you need a frame extension unless the car was built after 1982, but, not all '82 and later G-bodies have the extra mount for use with the 200R4 crossmember.

Just look at it this way, I have the tools and talent to make my own crossmember and have even found a B-body dual hump one, but, a nice new one for that price is WAAAAAAY worth it! A hacked up crossmember will flex causing all sorts of issues, even more so if you lean on it for drag racing...

    My $0.02.

I prefer the G-Force crossmember for its strength and ruggedness. Also it can fit larger exhaust pipes well. I had a Jegster crossmember, and it wouldn't fit my 3" exhaust pipes. If you order a Summit brand crossmember from Summit Racing it will be a G-Force crossmember, or at least that's what mine was.

I used the Iceman products cross member. It is lightweight and comes with frame extension so that you can bolt it in straight across the chassis vs the angle that the stock or others take using the original crossmember bolt holes. It will clear a 3.0 exhaust and looks like 3.5 will make it too. I have an older picture of the frame with is showing ahead of the rear axle, but not with the motor or exhaust installed. It uses the standard trans mount, but uses the single attachment bolt hole in the center. Got to the Iceman site off of the Maliburacing.com forum website.
