I believe it was around 35 to 40 passes. Of course I have no way of knowing at what point into that season that it broke. It might've happened after five runs, for all I know. I only brought it back because Scotty suggested it. I wanted to keep flogging it.

That was the only one that happened to.

I shift at 7200 and go through the traps at 7500. No problems yet, knock wood.

Doug did it take out the crank when it broke I would imagine hurt at least the bearing.
Craig those spacers are either wood or phenolic. He most likely used these to help insulate the carbs from the heat.
Jim did you try any anti reversion plates under the carbs or are the spacers under there to serve this purpose.

    Craig,

Actually we were just putzing with that project while doing other customer motors, and I ran into a situation on a Thursday afternoon with one guys motor, and I had a dyno session scheduled for the next day..

I felt I did not have time to properly do a new part for that customer's motor, so I had to take a gander around the shop at what could make it to that session, and that motor was it..

Initally we were just going to use a 1/2 inch spacer under each carb, but in setting up the linkage, it would not clear the edge of the plenum without raising the carb on a 1 inch spacer. If you look closely, you will see that the front carb has one of our Dart cloverleaf wood spacers, and the rear is actually the two 1/2 inch spacers.

We were just looking to get a feeling on what the manifold would do, it's certainly not a scienced out deal by any means.

We did not get a chance to play with anti-reversion plates, or other spacers.. we will do that testing at the track. We have a good baseline for a tune up now, and will go from there.

John.. 7200 does not scare me, but Doug's 7500 does.. since that is what Dave (Mongeon) keeps telling me.. 7000 ok... 7500+ is where you get into trouble.

And he would know, since his Naturally aspirated Alky injected STG 4 motor in his Skyhawk is getting near that elusive 7 second club. And he has hurt his share of parts. Not unlike everyone who is getting into that 800+ Hp range.

Rod spent 16k before even getting it to the track the 1st time this year. Then just put another 3k into the chassis. Going fast is addictive, but you pay for it. Now if someone would come out with a block, we could really spend some money!! I'm thinking pigs will fly about that time too. If Rod's block hadn't cracked he would of used it this year. We are not for sure when or why it cracked. It could of been wore out after 3 years or it could of been from the last past Rod made last year. It back fired and blew the burst panel in the blower. Better than blowing it out the oil pan though.

I also have to agree with Doug,,, if it ever went to 1/8 mile we would find a new sport. About the only thing that should run an 1/8 mile is those Jr dragsters.

    JW- nice motor! :TU:

Man oh man! I could not agree with you anymore that that! Some guys just do not realize you have to spend some big bucks on these engines. Blocks...I am down for one and if I have to I'll squeeze the extra money out my a@S if needed be, to get another, IF the alledged "new 455 block" ever comes out. The market is there, now if all the talking will stop...WHERE'S THE BEEF!

Do you think we can get Doug into a Jr.Dragster?:jd:
