This spring I finally converted my closed driveline nailhead/dynaflow to an open driveline with a switch pitch 400. Works great, no problems, the car loves it all summer.

Since I cant leave anything alone I put the car up on jackstands and start converting to Holley Sniper EFI and change generator to an alternator. Thats all going well but...

Overnight I suddenly have a large trans fluid leak with the car just sitting there LEVEL on four stands not running at all. Trace it to the dipstick tube as the source. WTF? Was fine before, its not been run since, and its leaking considerably.

Well, experience has told me only time I’ve seen that is with an overfilled trans. But before this work trans was just fine and filled properly. I check the ATF level and COLD its as if its got multiple quarts more than it should.

So, the question is, how would the fluid level spontaneously change like this? Could the converter or something else suddenly drain back and raise the fluid level????!!

The converter is draining back. Pretty normal when a car sits for an extended period. Start replacing seals and gaskets as the fluid level will get higher and higher and find the leaks..

Yup, mine didn't do it for three years after the restoration, then drained on the garage drip tray out of the clear blue.
Convertor drain back. Mine leaked from the dipstick tube. Tried new o-ring, 2 o-rings, then Right Stuff to the rescue . JIM
