So should we continue the conversation about weight loss or you want us to stop since you were somewhat asking for leads on parts and we blew it up? Lol

So our 69 was all steel except for hood and bumpers. Full interior w stock seats. 8.50 cage and alum heads. That car was 3335 without me which I thought was pretty good considering the above. We spent a lot of time going after the little things. Gary Kubish once said ounces add up to pounds so it all makes a difference. Go after the little things after the obvious stuff and you'll be surprised how much it adds up.

Dumping the steering box for a rack helps. Wish I would have weighed all that stuff to really tell how much.

Most or all rack setups are a wash. I’ve done a few of them. Basically what I did is weigh everything that came off the car from the traditional steering setup, then weighed everything for the rack setup that was going on. The difference was less than 2lbs.
I just keep everything stock style manual steering.

I wouldn't call 2 lbs a wash but money wise maybe not worth it. If you're looking to go fast it will cost. Whether it's saving weight or making more power. It all costs $$

Brian you're right about the rack in some ways but I feel once you get past the obvious body parts etc you will be searching for bits and pieces to save on.
Gutting our interior wasn't really what we wanted to do so we did a lot of small things instead. I even cut the insulation/sound deadener/padding off the back of the carpet.

I'd like to see the chrome moly transmission mount myself...

Pat here is a pic. This is actually Gary Kubish's picture I think but I had the same one and don't have a pic handy. The tabs weld to the frame then the mount is bolted between the tabs.

It's a commitment for sure. To some degree it's harder than building power if you're trying to maintain a certain appearance.

Manual R&P is not only a weight loss, but also a space saver on a racecar. I would never use one on something I was still going to street drive though.

I like to keep the car as correct looking as possible. Chrome fiberglass bumpers and whatever lightweight parts I can find that can look stock, with the exception of a few things, like a radiator support. Everything I have gets driven,so I need my lights, wheel wells, etc, but I can still shave weight here and there. It all adds up. I also have full interiors. No gutted interiors,no lexan. Making the car lighter is a little
More of a challenge than making more power. I’m not concerned about cost. I just like things a certain way.

47f2e4feed7e3dd8999cb47a52ff66ad.jpg There's a guy in Toledo Ohio that makes nice door panels, rear fillers etc for Chevelles, mustangs etc. I'm assuming the chevelle pieces would fit buick doors as well.
