It might be a little tricky to fit the longer muffler in there. Your head pipes don’t have very much straight section before the muffler. If you trim that back, you might not have enough before the angle. Just measure it out real good. “Maybe” you can trim some off the head pipes and some off the tails.

I have the Magnaflow system on my red 66... the original mufflers were too loud, I replaced them with the #17748's (side in, center out). It was a challenge fitting the longer mufflers in there. I had to shorten and butt weld the pipes, I believe I did this just after the 'x', since that is where the pipes are straight.

I'll have my exhaust guy check the fit before I order the muffs. Do you think your fit problem would have been made easier if the new muffs would have been offset/offset?

    Another option.
I replaced my flowmasters with these Vibrant 3" t mufflers and like them a lot.

I tried to make the center/offset muffler work on my car with the 2.5" Pypes system, which used the offset/offset mufflers, and there was just no easy way. The center side would either place the mufflers within fractions of an inch of the drive shaft yoke, or if the mufflers were turned around (does not matter with the Super Turbos), the tailpipes would not fit from the bend over the axel to the gas tank area. It just made more sense to buy the offset/offset mufflers to replace the center/offset ones that I purchased incorrectly.

What mufflers did you have on the GS in the 2012 video at the drag strip? Sounded great going down the track!

That would have been the Walker 17749's I went to 3" exhaust and the current Magnaflow mufflers in 2014. Ran my best time that year at Cecil, 11.54. Ran 11.63 with the QJ.

You can cut the pipes directly after the "X" where the pipes are straight. Looks like you can trim out the 6" you need there easy. You wouldn't screw the geometry up like that. A welded seam there would cause no issue and would be the easiest way to make room for the larger mufflers.

Well, I decided on the Walker Dynomax. I remember how quiet they were and flow testing showed they flowed as good or better than many of the other brands. Since I'm running short on time before BG, I ordered both the 17748 and the 17749 and they will be here on Monday. I'll take both to my exhaust guy to decide which will fit better. Then, I'll either send the other 2 back to Amazon (free returns) or will post them for sale on this forum. I'll post again after the install next week.

I can't wait to hear what mine sounds like with the 14" Dynomax Super Turbos. Still trying to get the thing put back together so I can start and hear it! Gotta be better than those chambered Thrush mufflers... LOL

I have the same questions, want it quieter than the Flowmasters. The walkers did the best on dyno from GS club test but that was a while ago. I now want to hear the cam and hear it in the headers instead of out the back but keep as much HP as possible. Have to watch those videos

Went in on Monday. Turns out my 2 1/2 in. Downpipes had been previously necked down to 2-1/4 and 2 1/4 in flare fittings installed which wouldn’t allow them to seal properly with the ported outlets of the manifolds.

So, he had to order new 2 1/2 in. 2 hole flares and will re-flare the down pipes to seal to the manifolds properly. That should happen tomorrow or Friday. Car is otherwise ready for the trip and running great.

I almost sent you the down pipes that I had specially made for this.. not mandrel bent, but my dyno guy says 1-3 HP is the only difference with that short a pipe.. He's seen guys do the tests on 500 plus HP stock appearing motors in the past. That was also going from 2.25 kink bent, to 2.5 mandrel, on the test he showed me.. on these only the LH side has a slightly reduced diameter.. RH one the bend is much less.

I specifically had the pipes bent correctly for the A body install.

Looks like I should have.. they are unique to those Rodgers manifolds with the the welded on bigger donut.. Got to thinking I am going to need a place to stash these, where I can find them again, should I ever need them.

Wish I'd looked under the car earlier as it's easy to see that the guy who restored it in 2018 modified the MagnaFlow downpipe to mate with the standard manifold opening. I rant into this with my white car which had the previous Rogers ported manifolds at about 2 1/4. But I caught that one before it became a time problem.

To give credit to Jim, his manifolds will bolt up to any 2 1/2" downpipe provided the downpipe has the right 2-bolt, 2 1/2" flange to begin with. Fingers crossed my exhaust guy can get those flanges here this week. He will also install the Walker Dynomax Super Turbos that came in the other day.

I bought my 2 1/2” down pipes from TA. They worked perfect with my stock manifolds. Not sure how they would work with yours. I guess if the holes in the flange match the manifold studs, they should work fine.
