Should have seen the first 69's before they redesigned the hood hinges. The 68 hoods open almost a foot less than the 69's, but didn't have the "tongue". Had quite a few dented heads in the early prototypes of the 69's with the 68 hinges.

I've heard that Gen I Firebird hinges (2 bolts on the febder) bolt to the 68 fenders and give the extra opening like a 69 and later. Never actually did it myself. Service replacement fenders all had both sets of holes when the change was made for the 69 3 bolt corporate hinge. I'm putting 69 hiinges on my other 68. :bglasses:

Very nice car, and nice detailing job. Is the same one John Aldridge bought with the Dick Miller engine? Buicklawyer? Flyin Buick? Buehler? Buehler? :)

No, this car was from my area. At last night's cruise-in, my father met someone who knew a little more history about it. Turns out that some local boys that live in the sticks bought it many years back and run the hell out of it. It was in pretty rough shape in those days. They parked it in the woods where it set for several years until a guy bought it from them. He was trying to do a good job restoring it when he discovered drugs. He had to sell the car and now has nothing, not even a house. Drugs ruin lives!

Amen. Glad you were able to save it and especially bring it back to this condition. Just plain weren't that many of these that survived.

Well, we finally got most of the little bugs worked out of the car. Still fighting the vinyl dye on the kick panels, but I believe I can eventually get that one fixed too. So, 2 weeks back we took the car to the first decent sized show. It was in Fletcher, NC. Turnout was good with over 500 cars and many vendors. The Olds took first place in the muscle car class. It beat out a Hemi Challanger which took second place. It didn't win best of show, but a very nice street rod did.
Yesterday, we took it to the local town of Elizabethton, TN. Over the last 10 years the town has created a very nice Sat. night cruise in. My Classic Car heard about this and showed up yesterday for filming. So, the town closed the main streets and started accepting cars at 7am. We got there at 7:30 am which placed us up the streeet away from most of the action so they didn't get around to filming any of our cars I don't think. Well over 800 cars showed up and I can say it was some of the best quality I have ever seen assembled in one place. I have been to several large auto shows and this had them all beat! It had a very wide variety and anything you liked was probably represented there. So, we were caught off guard when the announcer called out the W-31 as one of the trophy winners! We didn't even know that they were handing out anything. But the sponsers of the show got to pick their favorite cars and one sponser picked the Olds. Didn't get any tv time, but the award made it worth all the hard work. Oh, did I mention we worked until 4:30am the night before getting my GS ready for the trip. My brother didn't even go to bed. He's probably still snoozing right now.

What do you do in an area where people don't like Buicks and Olds much? Take a tractor trailer load and stick them in their noses!
