Nice car. I owned several original paint W-30's back in the 80's and one thing I noticed about the firewall was a light blue stamping with one or two letters. I seem to remember a "T" inside a light blue box. This was a stamp and not hand written. What does your firewall have. You seem to be going for factory correct it might be something to look for if you don't already have it.

I was thinking the same thing! That was a pretty nice car if I recall, had a few things to correct. I think he's had about every color Olds ever made at one time or the other. :TU:

Yeah, the other W31 has original stamps on the firewall. We have a 70 Cutlass with them also. Buick firewall markings were simple. These Olds stamps are harder to figure out. I did research last summer and came up with nothing. Camaros used similar stamps, but not the same letters. Was the "T" unique to 30 and 31 cars? Some great guy painted over the original ones on the firewall. :Dou:

I don't think any of those stamps denoted anything about W cars or non W cars. They were inspector's stamps and most of the ones on the firewall were from Fisher Body. They were there to ensure the body was ready for shipping across town to the Olds assembly plant from a distance.

Olds used a "history card" which was a hard paper 3 page form that went along with the car through the final assembly process and all the inspectors stamps and repairman buyoffs were put on those sheets. Most were coded punches, some were stamps like these on the firewall. All were saved in a warehouse that I understand burned to the ground in the late 70's, early 80's. Talk about fabulous paperwork to have on your car. Wish I had stolen mne when I had the access.

I've seen "Go Green" written on firewalls, under hoods, as well as phone numbers, obscene languag etc. Waiting for someone to find a "F___ You" message written on his rare musclecar and try to pass that off as a W car indicator.

I didn't know if the warehouse burning was a myth or not. Glad to hear the truth. I found a couple of sheets in the seats, but rats had chewed them all into tiny little pieces! That's a pisser!!

This car is Galleon Gold in color (code 55). That is if the painter before us did the car correct again. He said he did. :Do No:

Amazing detail. Looks brand new. However, it could use some burnt rubber sprayed around to make it more authentic .

You're doing a beautiful job on that car. Very clean. I had 2 W31's in the past, and enjoyed them both.

That car looks great John, I had a 1970 SX 455 Cutlass , back in 83 or so,
it was triple black. You took your time and it shows!
By the way......I'm slowly adjusting to Knoxville :TU:

Well, I promised pics. It took a while to finish it (never finished). So today it and the other 2 Olds made a local show. Feels good to get to enjoy it instead of bust ass on it!!!

30 over original 350. Only thing we are still looking for is an original carb. Got to change the master cylinder to a correct one soon.

Last shot. The show was a blast. It only had a people's choice and they picked a Mopar. This was basically a fund raiser for the local festival. Next year, we will start on the 1972 W-30. Until then, maybe I can get something done on my Buick.
