That’s what I was wondering about, old damage.

I bought car in 82 and talked to previous owners. No engine work done before me. I'm quite certain. But always had almost 0 oil pressure at hot idle. I used straight 40 for year because I only drove her in in warm weather.

Put a real mechanical gage on it if you don't have one already.

When my 350 did that the debris was very recognizable as gear teeth.

I did confirm zero oil pressure in the 80s before the high volume pump was installed by my local dealer. But it didn't help much back then so I continued using 40w oil.

I replaced original sending unit for the gauge. No difference.

Pulled cam. Looks fine except cylinder #1 intake lobe and lifter.

Picture of one of the largest shards.

Question: bearing material should be magnetic or brass? None of my shavings are magnetic.

Didn't take any pistons out yet. Everything thing else looks fine to me except timing marks didn't line up. (Last picture)

I know of a turbo Mustang that is in the 8's at a buck 50. Too bad there hasn't been enough here with good input to trust the system plus you need good info to tune it in properly. just cruising around and stepping on it halfway is not enough. Can it take a full throttle run with up shift without detonating the engine to death.
When more people try and do this there will be more info on proper tuning.
Should be able to click off a 11 sec 1/4 with a good set up use the 2004r trans lockup the convertor and probably only need a 373 gear to get the job done. Motor rebuild will be a must though with all oil mods done and it will last a long time.
Go for it be a pioneer maybe we are weak in the US with adventure as compared to up north.
I ran nitrous for a number of years now so I think that counts here.lol

    Very important,

    https://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/oil-pump-clearances-and-oil-pressure.326597/

If your bearing clearances are good, the oil pump clearances may not be, and even the HP/HV pump gears won't help if the end clearances are too big.

Thanks yes I've been reading for years. I will follow steps.

I examined shavings more last night and I'm starting to think the timing set may have had a major fail before I purchased it. Seems like it could indeed be black nylon and aluminum shavings.

Pictures of timing cover now attached.

Black nylon from what? The timing teeth on my cam gear were natural colored.

These are the pictures of the kind of material in the pan. Both nonmagnetic. Idk. Guess it doesn't matter that much. Just kinda mysterious.

2nd silver piece definitely looks like cam bearing material.

Yes. Machinist said cam bearings were very worn. Gonna bore cylinders and grind crank a bit. The ball is rolling.

Yes. Thanks for all your help again Sean! Great to have this board for help from experienced people.

I'm going to be ordering my parts next week from TA. Just wondering how many items need to be replaced on my 140k motor.
I plan on getting the 212 cam and bearings, oil pump suggestions, pistons, rings, valves and springs. Adding up quickly but should be done every 50 years regardless!

Add stage 1 valvesprings to the list too.

    yes.

And figuring on the 1602 10:1 pistons.

I'll ask the shop also how much extra it would cost to mill a few thousands off the head to get compression up a bit more.

You may benefit more by having material removed from the block instead of the heads unless the heads are not flat.
