Anyone here ever had the two head bolt holes tubed so that the bulge could be reduced in the stage2-3 heads? I am thinking about doing this on my stage 2 heads and was wondering how much flow improvements removing this source of turbulance.

    Hi Dave,

YES.....unfortunately they did among many other things for my Procharged 475ci'r.

If you will......PLEASE go to the "High Tech for Old Iron" forum, then to the "Attn. Kerry S." thread for more details and pic's of the heads and my custom EFI'd Kenne-Bell Wildcat "Cool Runner" intake manifold.

    Kerry,

Thanks for giving me a call back the other day. Project is going really well, so when the time comes call me and I will try to help you out with your D3-M mounting bracket.

You can use a brass tube from an arts and crafts shop. It can be easily pressed into the original hole and its thin enough to allow the head to still slide over the head bolts. When and if you break into the head bolt hole be sure to seal the tube when you install it or it will pull oil past the head bolt from under the nut and washer. A STRONG WORD OF CAUTION! When you do this modification you decrease the structural integrity under the head bolt which can cause a problem you'll have to fix or pass on to somebody else. In my case, after the second time of installing the heads and torquing them I noticed that the roof next to the head bolt had collapsed slightly and two of the roofs had cracks! :jd: The cracks are being fixed and the machined area for the head bolt nut and washer is being elongated for a thick oval washer to spread the clamping load over the solid portion of the head which is the wall and bowl area of the port. As far as airflow, anything you can do to straighten out the airflow path will help as long as you or somebody knows what they are doing. Good luck.

    Hi Guys,

A company by the name of CV Products (.com) sells stainless steel head bolt sleeves. They also sell the necessary reamer and installation tool too!

I believe the brass sleeves should only be used for the pushrod holes as these have no bolt compression being applied there. Contact CV, they'll set you up with what you need!!

    Hope this helps.........:)

BTW "Buicks4Speed"..... what is your first name? We around here like to be a little more "family oriented"...

    Thanks!:TU:

No. I try not to. I think I've got the front end dialed in pretty good so it stays off the back bumper. The last time out I had a pretty consistant 60fts. of 1.32- off the back bumper. The motors apart waiting for the heads to come back with the plate mount shaft rockers. The 1.7 rollers were taking a beating from the roller springs and they've already been relief cut and its only time before they were going to let go.:stmad:
I made a post about a free race in S. Carolina to take my place, you know anyone? They could even run in a different class?
