Differences between Assembly Plants... Here'a pic showing 3 cowl plates, each from a different assembly plant. Seems the Flint built car (FL1) gives the most info about the options, The Baltimore car (BAL) gives minimal info, and the Fremont- built car (BF) has info which has yet to be deciphered..... Duane....sent you some copies!
My tag says: 01A 3605 67-44617 KAN 1157 196-B K-C W0 2ZG 5Y It was decoded by cjp69 (Thanks Chris!) as: 01A = First week of January 68 build date? 3605 ?? 67-44617 KAN 1157 = 67 GS 400 Hardtop built in Kansas City 196-B = Deluxe Aqua bucket seat interior K-C = The K is for aquamarine, not sure about the C? Duane, My '67 GS 340 has a trim code of 118. I have a '67 Chassis and Body Parts book that has all the trim codes defined for the entire '67 line if I can be some help. Chris
Thanks guys, It's interesting how some plants list a "B" after the trim code for buckets, while others have nothing. Duane
Duane, I'll send my tag info in a day or two, as my car is presently at my brothers house. I'd like to have it de-coded as well. I've also got the original bill of sale from May, 1965 listing all the option codes on my car. Oh, almost forgot, it's a 65 GS.
Duane, I've got the cowl tag info for my 65 GS. I would like to have it de-coded as well if possible. Here it is: 04C ST65-44437 FB 181319 BDY TR 154 LC * PAINT EO 2KXGP-3H-4FS-5KW The EO could be E0, I couldn't be certain Since I'm new to GS's, I don't know much about the codes, (but I want to learn) My car has white buckets, console, PS, AC, tinted glass all around, non posi, ratio unknown, clock. There is no carpet in it right now, any way to ID what should be correct color, I suspect black, but would like to be sure. Thanks for any help :TU:
Tom, If you want your ID plate decoded I would need the full Vin number along with the info from the cowl tag written exactly like it is on the tag. (Including the spaces between the various numbers. It's hard to do that here with typing.) If you included the original bill of sale from May, 1965 listing all the option codes on the car, that would really help. I should be able to pigeon hole the option codes on the ID plate with that. I would also like you to check over the option codes, I think one of them is wrong. Here is my info. Thanks Duane, I did take a photo of the cowl tag, (the old fashioned way, 35 mm), I'll send you all the info I have via snail mail on Monday. :TU: It is possible that I read the tag incorrectly. :spank: The car was up on a trailer at the time. I'll double check tomorrow.
Duane, Just checking to se how things are going for research. Have you been able to figure out which production plants used what letter suffixes for the different trims? WOW that is complicated. Hard work, great job BTW. Wish I could help in some way.
Jarrod, I have not been checking out which plants used the seat suffix code and which did not, but I have a pretty good handle on what they mean. After I get another dozen or so I should know for sure. The Buildsheets often used these same codes, that's the info I am looking for. Duane PS. I have Tom Balaz's info almost done, just 1 code to go now.
Duane, Just wondering how your research on cowl tag codes has been going? Have you been able to track down that last one yet?
Tom, No, it will probably take another dozen or so tags with cross referenced options to figure out that last one. I am going to print out your info within the next few days and send it to you. I will include a copy of a 65 wholesale car order form so you can decode the UPC codes on your paperwork. I think you will be impressed with how everything worked out. Duane
Duane, That's great, I appreciate all your help, and I am glad to contribute in any way to helping you build your data base. :TU:
1967 GS 400 Hardtop This was a red hardtop auto, black buckets, power seat, no head rest, posi, 4 piston disc brake option, AC, Manual windows, all tinted glass, console no tach, rear defroster car.
These pics are from my `67 GS Convertible, black bucket seat interior,i`ll get you the ones off my black `67 and my `66 as soon as i take some pics of them. Thanks
I never realized this... On my Fischer Body Buyout, I have "134 T". I know the 134 is Sandalwood int, and I always assumed the "T" stood for the sales code for Bittersweet Mist ext color, but then I noticed "62 E" below it (which is Bittersweet Mist with light tan top). So I have NO clue what the "T" is there for. o No:
Duane, I received your package this past week, very impressive indeed. :TU: Many thanks for taking the time to decode my tag, I really appreciate it. Hopefully, you'll be able to figure out that missing code soon. Thanks for including the wholesale car order form as well.
Tom, It was my pleasure to decode your tag. The info you sent, along with the tag info, helped me verify a few new codes. Thanks. Duane
