Hey guys, I have a 67 impala with a 454 big block in it. I was thinking of doing an auto to manual trans swap. It currently has a powerglide in it. I was also wondering if I should go with a m22, m21, or a more modern 5 speed. Just looking for tips and advice on the subject. Thanks.

It really depends a lot on what you do with the car but the first thing I would scratch off the list is the M21 or M22. They are both close ratio transmissions, and you have a big, heavy car. Unless you put a 4.10 or higher numerically gear in the back you're going to hate that close ratio trans every time you take off from a dead stop, but if you go with a higher rear gear ratio you hate it when you get out on the highway. With that said, I'd either go with an M20 with a lower rear gear, perhaps 3.31 or lower numerically, or the 5 speed. Personally, I'd go with the 5 speed. You can get them with gear ratios that will make you happy in every driving situation.
