Read the advertisement from 74 in the pictures. The 74 'GSX' truly was pathetic. There was 0 effort to improve the car beyond a standard Apollo. I don't understand why Buick would attach that name to the car. Especially since it was only a couple of years since real GSXs were sold.
Then there's what Olds did to the 442: Pathetic Wheezer...........
Certain models became decal packages in a few short years. Assume the combination of sharply higher insurance rates, a doubling of gasoline prices, and federal involvement in emission issues changed things in a relatively short time.
I would have just stopped making the model altogether with a 350 2barrell being the top option. It took more than decals to make the GSX what it was. Guess the same could be said for 72 for that matter. Wasn't that also available with a 350 2barrell? I love that 74. Only other thing I would do customizing wise is shave those bumpers. You could land a plane on those things for Pete's sake.
The build is exactly what BUICK SHOULD HAVE DONE. The buick advertising is hilarious. It talks about excitement and then references economy of the 6 cylinder or the performance of the 2bbl 350. Really ? A 74 350 2bbl was performance? yikes. by 74 the 350 was smogged out and not much use except maybe a mooring anchor.
Back in highschool, my best friend had a '74 Olds "Cutlass" 442 that was pretty much a decal package on a Cutlass.
