Didn't know if I should post this in here or the Tire forum, but I figured since it's specific to Regals, here would be good.

What kind of tire/wheel combinations is everyone running in their Regals? How wide can you go in the back, and what's a good offset to go with? I'd like info on all diameters.

    Thanx

This queston seems to get avoided a lot. I've posted the same question for 64 / 65 Skylarks a couple of times with no response. Hope you make out better.

You can easily run a 15x8 with a 3.5 inch backspacing with no problem. Dont know if you runing slicks or not but i use to run 28x11.50x15 hoosier dot pro and had trimmed the inner fender well. with a street tire you can eaily fit a 275/60/15 in back. as far as tha front is cocerned you can relly play with that wit a 15x7 and 15x6 and a 235x60x15 or a 255x60x15 or sumthin similar maybe even a 70 series tire

I'll be sticking to street tires at least for the time being, because there isn't a real drag strip within 3.5 hours of here. There's an 1/8 mile near Omaha, but I probably won't be dragging this car that much anyway.

I was kinda leaning towards a 235/60 - 255/60 combo, unless I break down and decide to go with 17's. That would likely only happen if I can't find a decent set of 15" rallyes.

BTW, does anyone know what the factory backspacing is on the 15" Rallye wheels? And are those 7" or 8" wide? The car currently has the 14" ones and I really love the look, but the tire options just aren't there, especially if I want to harness a 455.

the stock ralleys are 4 1/2 in offset so you wont really get anything wider
then 235-60 on there with the stock 7 in rim
    wheel vintiques had 15 x 8 rims
    i have 235-60-15 frt/255-60-15 rears on 15x7 frt 15x8 rear weld draglights
    with 3 1/2 offset

Now of course the thing I'm wondering about is the difference in the wheel wells between my '79 and the later body styles. The later cars flare outwards a bit whereas mine tuck in more . . .

15x8, 3.5 backspace, 275/60 radial tire or radial slick- no problemo

15x8, 3.5 backspace, 29.5x9 drag slick - close fit, depending on each particular car.

the 80 body/rearend is slightly different but with allitle lift in the rear springs
you could go with 255-60 15 or even 295-50-15
just check clearance as the offset on the vette rims is different and i cant
remember which rims i had on my 79 when i had the 295s on it

I have a set of 15 X 8 american racing wheels with 4 1/4 backspacing that fit my car perfect. Then I have the cragars that are in the pic now. I know they are 15 X 7 and belive they are 3 .5 backspacing. I am running a 275/60/15 . They rub just a little on the turns with passengers

I am running 15 x7 GN rims in all four corners of my 82 Regal, the front tires are 215/70/15, the rears are BFG's 275/60/15, the rear end is a GN 8.5 with Aluminum drums, the drums sometimes are a little thicker than the steel ones, so my tires sit just right in the wheel wells and no rubbing, may need a spacer when I go to the metal drums when I redo the rear brakes.

    Hope this helps
