Hi guys, on top of wanting to get away from the 3.36's (I guess, I don't know the code for a 77')that are in the Skylark's rear end, I'm also thinking of upping the tire size from the 24" 195-75R14 to something larger. How tall/big can I go?:Do No:

    Thanks

28x11.5x15 is what i run, big meats, they do rub a tiiiiiny bit around real sharp turns, but they sure look mean!

Kewl! Then if I was to go with a 26"-27" I should be fine. Gotta find some rims first, and for that I got to dig up some funds. The joy never ends!

    Sorry I don't see a picture.

I would stay with something less than 27", for sure. I have some that are about 27.2 and they look downright goofy. Even a 26" tire will be substantially taller.

And if you are doing iit for the sake of gas mileage, then don't. It would probably take you about 200,000 miles to get the payback. However, if you are buying new tires anyhow and there is no price difference, then go ahead and get something slightly taller. But don't buy tires and throw good ones away.

Of course you'll have to check fitment on whatever tire you buy - a '77 will have different clearance than my '69 or Dan's '75.

Thanks Bob. I don't have the budget to be throwing good away. I was thinking of using something like Camaro or Firebird 15" rims and running either a P205 or P215 R15 tire when I has the funds. Which will take me long enough that the present wheel/tire combo will be in need of new rubber! I'm not sure just yet, just thinking outloud!:idea2:

Sorry I missed this thread. I answered your PM.

Mine came with 3.23's and 26" tires with the TH200. The TH2004r upgrade was pretty nice when it came to highway driving. I still run the 26" tires, but now have 3.42 gears and a deep .64 overdrive.

Just a tip... Find an old tire outside a tire shop and have it mounted on a rim so you can test fit it. You will pay a few bucks to have the tire installed but once you are happy with the tire size you can buy new tires without any worry.

I would go with a 255/60/15, I bet it would fit....

Thanks for the info Sean. My Uncle gave me a 1979 Nova with 45,000 original miles on it. Rust free car with a 6 cylinder and a 3 on tree. Plan is to put a BBB and 4 speed in it. It will be a street car with a little drag radial action every now and then.
