    Hey all,

Does anyone know where I can get the correct throwout bearing for a '66 Skylark GS ? The bearing that came out of it is a BCA #1505-1 , but everyone I've talked to hear can't cross reference that #. The stock part # that O'Rielly's auto parts ordered is not the correct one. Is is possible the 4 speed is a conversion ? I've not seen a setup like the one on this car before, or is it just my lack of experience with the '66 model setup. It has a clutch fork that pivots up and down instead of the type like the '68 & up cars. Any help would be appreciated, the cars been on stands for weeks now because I can't find this part.

    Thx,
    SR

I purchased a Federal Mogul 1505 from "auto value". You will have to use your old Retainer (fork). You can remove the old retainer by using the proper size socket to tap it out. Also about a year ago I purchaced a complete setup from "CARS". The thing had set so long it would not turn so I soaked it in oil and kepted working it . It finally freed up. If your old retainer is in good shape and rivits aren't loose just change the bearing out.

I got one from Carmen Faso. It was about 50 bucks. The factory 66 skylark /gs set up has a shaft that runs through the bell housing. The thowout bearing is retained by a fork that attaches to the shaft. Clutch actuation is done by rotating the shaft, through levers, and equalizer shaft. The small block 66 skylark, manual trans set up, is of the conventional type, with z bar, and pivot fork. You must have a factory chassis manual, to do much work on these set ups, it takes out all the guess work. I got a brand new (NOS) manual on ebay, best money ever spent.

I didnt know you could buy a throwout bearing for a 65-66 gs over the counter. can you post a pic of it? the retainers are unique, and I couldnt find one, until I went to Carmen. I'd really like to see what it looks like. Thanks! :TU:

The bearing I got did not include the collar, it was just the bearing and had to be pressed onto the collar, luckily mine was in pretty good shape. As far as the reassembly of the car, I got it all back together only to find that I still did not have enought adjustment at the Zbar, the pedal was almost on the floor before it started to release. After tearing all of the clutch linkage out of the car, I found that at some point the original adjustment fork that connects to the zbar was repaired by someone who welding a bolt to it  . Also the bushing where the clutch pedal rod connects to the bellcrank underneath the master cylinder was pretty much non existant any longer. I replaced the bushing with one I found at the parts house that fits pretty good, and took the adjuster to the machine shop and had them remove the old bolt that was welded to the adjuster fork and replace it with a longer bolt rod. I just picked it up this morning I'll let you know if I have enough adjustment tonight.

Well, it's all back together and guess what ?? The clutch STILL won't release :ball:. I think maybe the bushings in the bellhousing are bad, as I see the shaft move up and down in the bellhousing when the clutch is depressed. Anyone know if you can buy these bushings ? Really not looking forward to taking this apart again. Any advice would be appreciated...........

    Thanks,

    Update

Hi all, just wanted to update everyone in case they were interested. I got the clutch pedal and pushrod back from the machine shop today. They fixed the 'egg shaped' hole in the pedal and the work 'pin' that goes through it. I 'devised' a temporary makeshift bushing for the engine side of the push rod until I can find a suitable replacment and the clutch is releasing now :pp . I guess the real test will be the first drive, if it ever stops raining here. If anyone is in the Austin, TX area, I would recommend Lupton Machine shop on S. Lamar, he was pricey but did a beautiful job on the pedal.

    Thanks for everyones help,

    SR

Do any of you guys have a parts book?
Look in group # 0.799 Clutch release bering with collar.
You will find that the part number 1367058 fits 1939 Buick through 1966 including the Skylark G S and the Wildcat with std trans.
These pop up quite frequently on e-bay.
