I have a 60 Electra and am rebuilding my Carter 4 barrel (its a 2982).

I was doing fine until I took off the thermostatic hot idle air valve and wanted to clean it and ended up bending it so it would not stay in the closed position anymore :Dou:
    I know....what an idiot !!!

The manual says it is non adjustable/repairable !
I bent it back as good as I could and now wonder how badly I screwed it up :( ?

Is this an essential part of the carb ?
Can i test the opening of the valve in hot water ? At what temp ?

Here is a picture of it.... Looks ok.... but at what temp should it open/close ?

Some carbs run without it, depending on the application. Run it and see what happens.
