... Okay; I had my last Buick 455 Regal (Pee-Gee built 462 with Lunati cam) stolen from me around 2002 by an "alleged" KNOWN-BUICK455-LOVER-THIEF. (Sorry about the misspelling of the word "THEFT" in this thread).

I had the Regal parked in the street, and it was stolen between 2:45am - 5:20am as I slept with my bedroom window opened and the Buick parked 5-houses away. At 25-mph, ALL car alarms would go off ... THAT night, I heard NADA.:eek2:

My issue has been this of late; supposed the "alleged" KNOWN-BUICK455-LOVER-THIEF is viewing this Board under a different name?

The word-in-the-streets (LOL) is that ONLY a Adamant-Buick-Lover will steal a Buick 455 ... and I've been told that the "alleged" KNOWN-BUICK455-LOVER-THIEF is States away from me/my Regal having just gotten out of jail.

    My QUESTIONS ...
"Are WE safe? How can we better fight off Buick455 thieves?" :Do No:

    Thanks much.:TU:

Shotguns and hand granades? I hear the Pontiac folk have a band of Ninja's.

I'm just yanking your chain =P Short of a GPS tracker to get the car back after the fact, there isn't much you can do against a motivated thief. They will push and tow cars to keep alarms from going off and engines from drawing attention. Metal cutters can be pretty quick and muffled, garages can be broken into, etc. I recommend Lo-jack or what ever the latest and greatest equivalent is these days if you are that concerned.

Thanks very much. You are actually the 2nd guy to mention getting Lo-Jack. I will look into this.

    Thanks much again.:3gears:

I had my Turbo Regal stolen from in front of my house. Woke up and it was gone. Worst feeling in the world.

Mid 80's GM steering columns are a joke. They're made of egg shell and it takes literally seconds for a thief to start your car with a screwdriver.

The more deterrents you install, the better off you'll be. The steel column guards are a good first step. A hidden kill switch would also be a good idea. I would go so far as to get a length of extra large steel chain and chain your car through a major suspension component to a tree. Seems drastic, but if they want it bad enough, they'll eventually get it.

You have to be vigilant 100% of the time, they just have to get lucky once

The only problem with Lo-Jack is that it only works after your car is stolen

Sorry to hear that:shock: ... really. I know that feeling oh-so-well. First thing my "mind" started to tell me was, "Your Regal isn't really STOLEN ... it was probably taken by the Marshal, Chris... EVEN-THOUGH YOU HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO TICKETS WHAT-SO-EVER ... just CALL them." :(

You made a critical point regarding the "egg-shell like" steering column; I remember the huge chrome(? steel) steering column guard/pad-lock set-up my parents had decades ago ... covered @ 5-inches of the column. I will search for/have one fabricated.

    Thanks adamantly.:beer

back when i bought my regal with the blown up 231, i had it parked in a fenced in lot, someone broke in, broke out one of the quarter windows and peeled the column trying to steal it. didnt get far with no battery and a blown up motor. no it stays locked up inside because i would never get my money back if it was stolen. to the insurance company its just a plain old 84 regal worth about 500 bucks im sure. my only advice is do something that makes it so your the only one that knows how to start it and dont tell anyone how you have done it. not even us lol.

As much as I like the chain the car to a tree or structure, chain cutters are relatively easy to come by. After the fact recovery is your best method. Which actually shouldn't disuade you from using other common methods (alarms, steering wheel locks, etc.) as it'll keep the mediocre thief at bay.

I'm fortunate in the sense of "who the hell want's a '77 skylark" and if I were actually concerned I can unplug any number of fuses, relays, wires and prevent fuel, spark or both. And short of spending the time following the aftermarket wiring in the car for the EFI, it'll be very difficult trouble shooting under pressure.
