    1970Stage1 Why Go Quietly?

I was riding with my uncle in his 68 SS396 chevelle, and we were cruising along on a 3 lane 55mph road here in colorado. We are sitting at this light, and a brand new yellow viper pulls up beside and throws a couple revvs, because he obviously knows what the chevelle is. (When I ride in that chevelle, thats all anybody ever wants to do is race it.) My uncle acknowledges, and throws his column-shifted TH-400 into first. As soon as red light came on for cross traffic the stall speed was up, and the 396 was ready to rail this viper. The light turned green, and the ACC was buried. Man we kicked that vipers ass..........For the first ten feet. We learned the hard way. Learn from other peoples mistakes and don't try to outrun a viper in a 396 chevelle.

I have had the pleasure of killing 2 here locally. Both from a stop and a roll. They once asked to go from 60-70mph roll on the freeway and I told them just let me go home and get my old mans GN. They both backed out of that race so fast they left shoe marks. Those guys with all that money and they couldnt out run my old buick. Got to love it

Many years ago, my ex-brother in law had an SS396 Chevelle. He was coming home from a soft ball game with a friend in the car. Another guy on the team had a '70 Eldo 500 with 3 other guys in it(4 total). At the stop sign they decided to go for it and my bro in law got a lesson in CID. Then, dumb ass, says "No, uhn uhn. No way, let's go from a 20 mph roll." It was much worse the second time!
