This post is Religious in nature, please do not delete, it concerns Christians and their free practice of that faith including praying for one in other ! even as the heading says "help from above"

    By: Erick Erickson

In his speech to the United Nations General Assembly today the President of the United States declared that the future does not belong to practicing Christians. Already, the media and the left are in full denial, probably based on their general lack of understanding of theology. This would have been a gaffe had Mitt Romney said it. But with Barack Obama, hes just speaking bold truths. His bold truth declares that the future does not belong to practicing Christians.

Pay careful attention to what he says.

The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam. Yet to be credible, those who condemn that slander must also condemn the hate we see when the image of Jesus Christ is desecrated, churches are destroyed, or the Holocaust is denied. Let us condemn incitement against Sufi Muslims, and Shiite pilgrims. It is time to heed the words of Gandhi: Intolerance is itself a form of violence and an obstacle to the growth of a true democratic spirit. Together, we must work towards a world where we are strengthened by our differences, and not defined by them. That is what America embodies, and that is the vision we will support.

Now, thats the full paragraph so no one can claim I took him out of context.

    But consider this.

It is an orthodox Christian belief that Mohammed is not a prophet. Actual Christians, as opposed to many of the supposed Christians put up by the mainstream media, believe that Christ is the only way to salvation. Believing that is slandering Mohammed. Thats just a fact. If you dont believe me, you go into the MIddle East and proclaim Christ is the way, the truth, and the life and see what happens to your life.

Then Barack Obama went on to say Yet to be credible, those who condemn that slander must also condemn the hate we see when the image of Jesus Christ is desecrated, churches are destroyed, or the Holocaust is denied. Note he says we cannot slander the prophet of Islam but its only the image of Christ in the next sentence not actually Christ himself desecrated. If this is so, why does Barack Obamas government continue funding the National Endowment for the Arts, which funded Christ in piss, the Virgin Mary painted in dung, etc.?

Now, in point of fact, this is a major difference between Islam and Christianity. Christ came to this world as an enemy of the world and expected to be impugned. He also tells his followers that they should expect to be impugned. There is joy in being persecuted for following the Risen Lord. In Islam, if you impugn Mohammed, you get a fatwa on your butt.

And then there is the first amendment. The President of the United States tried to have it both ways in his speech.

I know there are some who ask why we dont just ban such a video. The answer is enshrined in our laws: our Constitution protects the right to practice free speech. Here in the United States, countless publications provoke offense. Like me, the majority of Americans are Christian, and yet we do not ban blasphemy against our most sacred beliefs. Moreover, as President of our country, and Commander-in-Chief of our military, I accept that people are going to call me awful things every day, and I will always defend their right to do so. Americans have fought and died around the globe to protect the right of all people to express their views even views that we disagree with.

We do so not because we support hateful speech, but because our Founders understood that without such protections, the capacity of each individual to express their own views, and practice their own faith, may be threatened. We do so because in a diverse society, efforts to restrict speech can become a tool to silence critics, or oppress minorities. We do so because given the power of faith in our lives, and the passion that religious differences can inflame, the strongest weapon against hateful speech is not repression, it is more speech the voices of tolerance that rally against bigotry and blasphemy, and lift up the values of understanding and mutual respect.

I know that not all countries in this body share this understanding of the protection of free speech. Yet in 2012, at a time when anyone with a cell phone can spread offensive views around the world with the click of a button, the notion that we can control the flow of information is obsolete. The question, then, is how we respond. And on this we must agree: there is no speech that justifies mindless violence.

Just words, Mr. President? You say there is no speech that justifies mindless violence, but all last week you condemned a ridiculous video trailer for a movie that does not exist. Your government ran advertisements in Pakistan denouncing the video. What of free speech, Mr. President? Last week you were saying the violence was understandable given the offensive film and this week you are trying to claim it was mindless.

Oh wait, you did it again in the same speech where you said there is no speech that justifies mindless violence:

At times, the conflicts arise along the fault lines of faith, race or tribe; and often they arise from the difficulties of reconciling tradition and faith with the diversity and interdependence of the modern world. In every country, there are those who find different religious beliefs threatening; in every culture, those who love freedom for themselves must ask how much they are willing to tolerate freedom for others.

That is what we saw play out the last two weeks, as a crude and disgusting video sparked outrage throughout the Muslim world.

Time and again the President of the United States tries to have it both ways.

    But are they just words?

The fact is, many religions do not recognize Mohammed as a prophet. In the widest swath of Islam, that denial is, in and of itself, slander. So what exactly are you saying Mr. President?

As an exit point, with all of President Obamas statements on tolerance in his speech, we should remember that tolerance is really not a Christian virtue. As Archbishop Chaput of Philadelphia noted, We need to remember that tolerance is not a Christian virtue. Charity, justice, mercy, prudence, honesty these are Christian virtues. And obviously, in a diverse community, tolerance is an important working principle. But its never an end itself. The Archbishop also noted that evil preaches tolerance until it is dominate and then it seeks to silence good. Thats not a statement that the President is evil in any way, shape, or form, but we should be mindful when the secular world demands tolerance for all, tolerance for all means we cannot have standards of faith to live by, because those standards obviously require we be intolerant of sins this world has embraced.

While this is more politcal than religious, I will let it stand. For now.

Be very careful here, the mods are watching and I have requested that they delete this thread immediately if it turns into some kind of political rant session.

After quickly scanning this post, I can tell you that this is nothing more than a politician, trying to get elected, playing to his base.

I see anyone that is a christian being lead away like the jews in the past. The Muslims are overtaking city after city in Europe and their beliefs are taking peoples rights away as fast as you can spell sharia law. They want all women to step back and never talk amoung some of it These laws will set womens lib back about 2 centurys. These sharia law practices are going to be deadly to those christians who will make a stand on who's GOD is the true GOD. I know Obama is a muslim. I dont care about that but dont tell me that I cant say something about it. They dont hesitate to insult my GOD and I have to take their insults. They blow stuff up when someone insults theirs. This is what the muslims believe too. Either convert or die. That is not what CHristianity is about. A true loving GOD will not force himself upon you as a nonbeliever. As much as I want to say more I will stop here. But just do the research and see what the muslims want to do to anyone they label infedels. There is many a website that you can see what the koran says. And trust me Why is it that every muslim might not want to kill us but everyone that wants to kill us is a muslim

At first I thought it would be difficult to comment without saying something political but, it really isn't.
There is a religious war ongoing in the world as it has been for millennia but, the tactics have changed.. Anyone that calls themselves a Christian (even not very good ones like me), or simply agrees with the same types of values needs to open their eyes, start researching, then spread what you WILL learn.

Thanks for letting this post stand.

" I can tell you that this is nothing more than a politician, trying to get elected, playing to his base. "
I have to disagree, this I believe is the ignition point of the next step into a one world government, and a one world religion known as the great whore of Babylon in the book of revelation. IMO

All 3 major religons (muslim, christian, hebrew) have killed in the name of their faith. All 3 consider non-believers to be less human. All 3 have caused war.

Religions Yes ! I as a Christian do not see unbelievers as less then human, ALL men have caused war, not just Christians.
So to stay on the subject of my original post, what do you think he was trying to say ? Do you think there is no future for practicing Christians ?
Like I said I would prefer this not go into attacking any ones"religion" or political view. If it bothers any one ? step off and ignore the post.

You may be right from a historical perspective, but that is not the point. Today there are people who are committed to eradicate those who do not embrace their beliefs--you included. I see the US as being significantly less prepared for, or able to sucessfully manage, a world war, than we were leading up to WW2. However I fully believe it is looming, ready or not. Our "political correctness" is our worst enemy--wake up and smell the coffee!

Freedom of speech cuts both ways, in America we are not savages so the art the OP refereed to is seen as a expression of freedom of speech. Most Americans are civilized enough to ether protest nonviolently or speak out against the art but realize freedom can hurt. Muslim Extremists are stuck in the 6th century and behave accordingly, most times violently because they act out of ignorance. We cant change them and I would rather not see Americans sink to their level. I would like to see more of the separation of church and state that the US was founded on but political pandering will all ways trump the Constitution, very sad.

I love and hate politics, but Christianity and Islam have nothing to do with politics, but both may use it for their betterment. ( Is that a word) I have taught Daniel, and the Bible teaches that the Persian Empire would end and history teaches it did. What is happening today is a preparation for Iran (Persia) and The kings of the North (North of Israel not America, draw a line on your map and guess who it is) will surround that glorious land (Israel) to take spoil. (One of the greatest world oil reserves was found in Israel in 2010) I believe God is weakening America so He alone can wipe out the armies who come to destroy Israel.(The Apple of His eye) (Read Ezekiel 38 & 39 to understand what is going to happen, and if that doesn't scare you then read about the bowl, seal and trumpet judgements in Revelation) None of this is political. It is all Spiritual. Life is not about us but about Jesus Christ who gives eternal life. Believe in Him. Love or hate, but pray for those who God put over us. ( and you thought you elected our representatives) If you don't like this or any of our Presidents, take your complaint to God, but read Job first. It might just make you pray for them! Last time I checked, we are to pray for our enemies. (Matt. 5:43-48, Rom. 12: 17-20) Do we really have too. Yes it may change your attitude toward life. I think God approves of our Buicks also, as long as they take us to worship HIm!

A future for practicing Christians? Nope. The bible tells us that will happen. We can only prepare for it.

Have you ever watched Dooms day preppers? Those people are prepping for THIS world not the next. We need to prep for the next world and that happens inside of us.

Can't answer the first question without getting political.

I think he means exactly what he says, and I will take him at his word. I can only speculate if his statement will guide his policy decisions, so I will refrain from any speculative comment. But I think he applauds the proliferation of Islam at the expense of other faiths. Perhaps he is pandering to those that favor religious rule, but until he admits to it, I'll assume he speaks his heartfelt belief.

So to stay on point, what do you think of "Practicing Christians future" ? in the speech given to the body of many nations and different faiths ?
We all should know that Islam is a religious/political org. and their methods are quite violent as seen over the last 30-40 years.
All morals and societal norms stem from Judeo/Christian teachings in America, why would a leader of this nation undermine one of its foundations ?
To what purpose ? why the sudden undermining of Christian faith in this country? this country claims a 70-80 percent belief in God, yet one man says we haven't a future in a country with a high percentage of believers ?

The speech was given in front a sea of muslims more than anything else. He along with all the muslims want a one world government that they control. That is no secret. There are so many books written about all of this and not to mention end times to look at the adgenda that has been in the works for years. Why do you think the UN wants to ban guns from us right now? Its so they can try to control us. That control will be speech, gun rights, choice of religion, etc. Its going to get ugly if people dont stop living with thier head in the sand. Here in the USA we have the RIGHT which is not the same in most countries to have the choice of religion. The seperation of church and state as I see in the above posts does not mean what you think it does. We have the right to choose our religion not have the government tell us which one we get. That is how the constitution was written.
