Tyler did a best of 6.86 today with air density altitude of 4850'.

1.63 60' so still more suspension dialing to do. This is a small airportso launch area is just asphalt runway. We are setting up to hook on it. We think if we can hook there, we can hook anywhere.

Quick conversion to quarter mile shows a 10.81 and with altitude correction, a 10.18. You guys running at sea level realy have it nice. We are jealous.

    Pretty happy with it.

Here is the 6.86 pass. The mustang owner was giving me all kinds of verbal crap, and the announcer was saying the mustang would beat the Buick. Watch and see....haha. The mustand is supercharged.

It is a stroked 302? Like a 347 or something. Roots type blower, but says only running 5psi. It runs a best of 8 something and ran an 11.55 this pass. The guy has 3 mustangs out there, this one with the blower and two with Nitrous. Tyler is faster than all of them natural.

Crazy thing is, we just ended up lining up next to them in line. Tyler said the guy asked if we wanted to run him, Tyler says "I guess", Tyler just wants to make passes. Then the guy throws a fit that we sprayed and blew him away. It was amusing, and irritating. Guess that's what happens when you think you are fast, and are blown away by a Buick, hehe.

I asked because I have a friend here thats got a 351 W in a 69 with a cent. blower and a CS carb that runs in the 9's in the quarter. Something might be wrong with his set up to be that slow 11's in the 1/8th?
Now for the Buick congrats 10 second quarter times do not come easily or cheaply :)

So your just on the motor Here?.. no juice?

Reason I ask is I saw the smoke, and just wrote it off to being "safe rich" on the nitrous.

If that's just the motor doing that, and it's from being fat, then there probably is some more in it.

Of course if it's oil smoke then that's a different thing..

Jim, it's oil smoke from the valve covers. Leaking like crazy.

Tyler made one pass out of the trailer, and pulled back and pulled the valve covers to run the valves. Gasket slid out in the back and we couldn't get it to seal back up at the track with what we had. So it dumped out of the back of the cover, on to the header.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it. No engine smoke on all the dyno pulls, or first pass. Not even any drops on the ground after all the dyno pulls. Now, we have oil pools. Easy to fix though.

whats funny is that he still beat the mustang with the valves the way they were on motor.

    I see Mark...

Be careful with the oil leaks, you wouldn't be the first car to go up in flames..

A trick I use in the shop is to glue the gaskets to the covers with weatherstrip adhesive.. Alum heads with good flat alum valve covers can use the durable rubber gaskets, with no sealer between the gasket and the head.

Makes the job of R&R at the track much simpler, when the gasket is stuck to the cover.

Have fun, good luck with the racing season!

I thought of that today Jim and was going to tell Tyler. We have good rubber gasket, but used silicone. We'll stick them on there with the adhesive and be leak free for a while.

    Thanks Jim.

Hoping for a 9 second pass late in the year at a track with good air.

hey jim has anyone ever tried to get a machine shop to cut an o ring groove in the valve covers and seal it up like the ls engines are. they can go almost 200,000 miles with dry valve covers.that would be sweet.

    Lonnie..

While it could be done, the simple fact is that with good quality cast aluminum covers, and the rubber gaskets, it's not a problem.. so no one is going to spend hundreds of dollars just to have an O-ring.

The new generation of Detroit motors finally went away from the tin valve covers and oil pans, so they do a much better job of sealing over time.

Only took them 50 or so years to figure that out...
