If you put speakers on the side of the Tesla you can play big block cammed out sounds on it and sound like a normal car.

The electric cars will be like a golf game at the track the announcers will quietly talk while the beast is at the line just looking like it is fast, then woosh there it goes without a sound. Boy That will be exciting right?

In 50 yrs this will be the norm we will be gone and our junk will be in the scrap yard. Since by then it will be a danger to society.

    Good point!
They're two COMPLETELY different propulsion systems:rolleyes:
Its like the comparison of a jet powered plane, car, or truck against a piston powered vehicle.
Let 'em run, but put them in a class of their peers:D

Which one took a quiet, leisurely drive home at 80 mph with the A/C on, playing tunes on the radio, cruise control on? Maybe they had to stop for a charge first, though. Time marches on, boys. Electric isn't yet the answer for everything, they are a super [and expensive] car in many ways. Still no explanation on where all of the grid power will suddenly come from if everyone could possibly afford to switch. Lots of practical problems remain before everyone can have one.

That Vette is one cool-ass race car though. I love every single thing about it.

They both probably did! The Tesla owner in his Tesla and the Vette owner in his crew cab pickup pulling the trailer with the Vette in it!

That Tesla weighs over 2 tons??
That was a cool race and all, but look what kind of set up it took to beat the Tesla:rolleyes:

The Vette was more fun to drive I would love to row that thing. I guess a big block Buick would be able to take it out I know they go 130 and get 1.30 in the 60. I think, can it do 120 in the 1/8, hmmm

There are two ways to go faster, More HP, or lighten the car.

If Teslas (and other electrics) were in their own class, then it might get interesting. Right now, I think they’re all racing in stock trim. When each racer starts to need an advantage, like less weight or more horsepower(?) wattage(?) then you’ll see some innovation. Weight reduction would be obvious, but what ‘tuning’ could you do?

You would not see this in bracket racing. As fast as the top models are now, there simply is no need to go faster. Only when you pit them head to head, first one to the finish line racing.... then the fun will begin.

"hot rodding" an EV entails battery upgrades, control system mods, motor upgrades/additions, and inverter upgrades/additions. And of course reducing weight. Most of the known Chassis tuning goes right out the window without a spinning engine and a transmission with a trans brake.. that will be entirely different for the most part, the best ET's will result from the best leaving cars, that need no traction management.

Let's hope the sanctioning bodies see the light, and require appropriate safety equipment for the ET's these things are running. Before someone has to die, or to be permanently disabled, to force their hand.

9,000 lb, 0-60 in 3.0, 11.70 1/4 mile. It would sure feel dim to be dusted off by this behemoth while cruising in one's "muscle" car. All for about the same price as a nicely restored Stage 1; not sure if that is a reflection of current muscle car prices or a new EV. Neither is real affordable to the average person. And he's racing in stock production class. I have no plans to afford either and despite a lifelong dream of owning an apollo white GSX, I think I would take door number two here. I still have reservations about the practicalities of owning an EV in a rural area, especially a truck, but the day-of-the-purchase situation is hard to deny. https://www.motortrend.com/reviews/2022-gmc-hummer-ev-pickup-first-edition-first-test-review/

Maybe the "no electronics" rule in some bracket racing classes can take care of that problem (I don't know the depth of bracket racing class rules).

I got stomped at a red light by a dual motor Tesla yesterday. Doesn't happen often with my granny station wagon and stock single exhaust and 373 gears. I foot brake and most people don't suspect a thing. This guy was fast!

I used to have a whole box full of electric cars and they were a lot of fun. You would have to wind to win, longer small diameter wire for top end, shorter fat wire for drag and twisty tracts. The armature held only so much wire volume so you had to use your space and winding skill combo to win, silver brushes, vacuu-formed gum wrapper bodies, etc. I still race with a battery and starter motor hooked up to my 455 power plant, let them carry their generator and power plant as well like we do, fairs fair right? Needs to be the same system if racing in the same class, you don't race the rocket or jet cars do ya? If they don't like it they can race with the fuelers, they leave their starter motors and batteries at the line. No extension cords that's cheating. You can still change your jets between rounds and they can unwrap and rap a half mile of 14 gauge if they want to, fairs fair.

Sponsorship will evolve as it always has. Eventually, Hello Kitty will develop a full range of car accessories for the EV crowd and will be the new top-tier sponsor at these events.

Does anybody think drag racing electric cars is going to be fun with no sound. What is going to be the excitement other than being able to feel the car go down the track. What if it was as fast as a top fueler, you would Never feel the Power!
    boring.

I think the fun will be on the street if you enjoy the light to light encounters.:) With controlled 4 wheel traction, and the instant torque of the electric motors, a lot of modern muscle is going to have their day ruined by a girl in an EV:) And no noise, to get the attention of law enforcement.

    Definitely separate class for EV.

Something that occurred to me the other day is that if there were enough electric racers you could have a track that would bother any neighbors so tracks that were shut down due to NOISE could re-open. :D Still could have some fun racing.....

I'll bet a good hacker could get his EV's front bumper cameras to read the Christmas tree lights and calculate his reaction time without anyone being able to prove it.
