    Hi Guys,

Does anyone know the weights of a TA block vs a stock block? Or in my case one vs. stock block w/ girdle and tall filled w/ cement?

    Any input would be great!!!

    Regards,

My solid TA block is about 175#+or-, Call TA for sure but the TA block with water jackets is around 150# +or-. TA can tell you what a stock block weighs but I think 300#'s without a crank seems a bit much since, at 59 I can still pick up a stock bare block and then 4 aspirin immediately after!

I weighed mine after I got it, not "solid" it was 165lbs. My current iron "filled" block is waaaayyyyy heavier!

Using just a bathroom scale my TA block weighed 165 lbs. My iron block with a girdle and full of Hard Blok weighed 270 lbs.

No way a stock block weighs 300 pounds. i loaded my assembled stock short block up in the back of the truck by hand. I'm not that strong. that would make assembled short block around 425

The crank alone must weigh 170lbs

I'm confused. Mike T told me the Alum block was not any lighter because of the much thicker walls. I will weigh my bare iron block and separate block and lifter bore girdles and give actual weights-not wild guesses. Wild guesses are worth nothing.

TA Alum block, with the caps on, is right about the same weight as a Standard iron block.. around 160-165 lbs

Without the massive caps, the block is pretty light, I have no problem picking them up off the floor, without really straining. I would guess the alum block itself is about 100-110 lbs..

Yes, I would guess the caps/studs are about 10 lbs each...

Your current block weighs about 215-225 with the 25 lbs of block girdle, and 20-30 lbs of hardblock.

OK, my iron block with cam bearings and brass freeze plugs is 157.5lbs. The girdle with bolts but without the cast part on the timing cover ( I can't locate it ) is 28 lbs. The lifter bore girdle is 13 lbs without the four bolts.
So adding the 41+ pounds to the iron block is 198.5+ lbs. Then add in the Hard Block. If the Alum block doesn't need the girdles and filler it is considerably lighter. About 35 lbs plus any filler.

Has anyone actually tested the limits of this block yet? Tomahawk block. Carol Shelby said his block can handle 2500 hp but has gone in the 3000 mark and one fella is gonna see if can go 4000 soon. I was just wondering, continue.

When I weighed a block, with no main caps it weighed 112 lbs, with caps it was 158 or something. Without the caps it's lighter than a stock block but with caps it weights about the same. The big thing is, is that something in the rotating assembly will break before our block ever will. I dont think one will ever break on its own, it would require some.. assistance, say in the form of throwing a rod out the side lol. But that can be repaired!:3gears:
