TA Performance High Performance Water Pump

Does anyone have any experience/feedback using TA Performance’s high performance water pump? In the process of tinkering with the radiator on my 71 Riviera and wondered if it was worth it to throw one on while I was at it. Thanks!

They move more water....some have had issues with it making contact with the timing covers so I would test fit first

Yes, I have TA Performance’s high performance water pump.

A couple of years ago, I had a huge engine high temperature problem all caused because the previous owner of my 70 Buick Shylark GS 455
had Kenny Bell high compression forged pistons installed. He had no clue what he was doing. It was so bad that he gave up trying to fix the problem and sold the car.

Of course it wasn't advertised as having any problems, but I found them, or my mechanic did.

I ended up changing ALL the coolant parts.
    1. Clutch fan. No help.
    2. Copper/brass HD radiator. Didn't work. Even changed the radiator hoses.
    3. New high flow 180* thermostat. No help.
    4. TA's Performance’s high performance water pump. No help that we could see.
    5. Evan's waterless coolant. Some help there.
    6. Larry the Wizard recommended the Griffin aluminum big tube radiator. That did the TRICK. Runs mostly at 190* now.

You can see I made a lot of changes, so it's difficult to really tell what % of coolant part changes helped and didn't help.
If I had to do it all over again, I would still buy TA Performance’s high performance water pump.

I have bought a lot of TA's parts; they make outstanding equipment for Buicks. I have high confidence in using their equipment.

Also, I went through a very good tune from a Professional tuner and I'm sure that helped, which included installing a Duel Wideband
AFR in my car. Got the perfect tune doing this.

I wish I could say TA Performance’s high performance water pump did the job (I'm sure it helped), but it was the Griffin aluminum radiator
    that was the final CURE.

I run this exact water pump on my 455. I was experiencing higher temps at idle or in traffic. Only swapped the pump. Now I need to sometime put a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator in cooler temp otherwise it just stays at 160 degrees. Very happy......no more high temps even in the summer and I run a 180 degree thermostat

I run the TA water pump with the 5% overdrive pulleys with a Griffin radiator/electric fan combination. My 523 runs at 180* all day. When sitting in traffic idling for a long time, temperature will creep up to 185*.

My story is the same as Vet's story. A lot of parts bought to make the car run cooler. Including the high performance TA water pump. All had at the least minimal help. The water pump helped but not as much as I would of liked. What really made the difference was the aluminum Griffin radiator. In heavy traffic on a warm day it doesn't go above 190 degrees. I advise of course using a sacrificial anode with it.

I struggled with cooling issues in my 67 GS400, like most do with these cars. Started off by adding a 4 row core to the stock tanks which made a pretty big difference, then added a clutch fan and shroud. Temps were a lot cooler but I would still start to approach 200*F if I was idling for a bit. The last piece of the puzzle was the TA high flow pump and an overflow jug. That has kept my temps right at 185-190* with a 180* thermostat no matter how long I let the car idle. I do have some clearance issues between the pump and the p/s belt, but I don't see any wear on the belt so I have stopped stressing about it. For me, the worst case is I lose the belt and just have to toss another one on from my spare stash in the trunk.

Thanks everyone for all the replies. I believe I will look to add the high flow pump as I have already added the 4 row radiator. Wish me luck!

What size are the radiator tubes? An extra row with small tubes may make cooling worse.
