Now that some cams are back in stock - any real world feedback on these cams?

I’d have to go 284. My comp cam is very close but little less lift. I would go 284 for more torque. I’d think you’ll like it. Glad to hear parts back in stock.

I have the 284 in my fresh 350. I am getting ready to stomp on it and it sounds great and smooth at idle.

compression ratio becomes part of the question here - if its a low compression motor, the 212 is a great cam that does everything right: mileage, vacuum, idle, throttle response, etc... the 284 is obviously a step up in power but a narrower LSA makes it somewhat peaky and gives up some of the things the 212 has. It does have a longer exhaust duration which could work better for a higher compression engine. depends what your goals are, racing, cruising, cruise nights, etc..

I have the 212 cam in the 455 in our 1969 Chevrolet C/10. Love it! Outstanding torque from just off idle to just past 5000 RPM. Excellent throttle response. Floor it at any speed and any RPM and it just takes off. Mild enough that I was able to keep the stock converter so I can still tow and haul with the truck, and still enough torque to smoke the tires. And it is tame enough that my wife can jump in it and drive it anywhere, even take my mother in law for a spin. You should hear them giggle when they floor it and their heads hit the back glass!

What compression ratio is recommended for the 284?

    They say 9:1 or more.

    That sounds reasonable.

It takes approximately 9.65:1 SCR to produce a DCR of 7.5.

Is the 212 more pump gas friendly?

Pump gas friendly depends on Dynamic Compression Ratio (DCR), among other things. DCR depends on Static compression ratio and cam timing. The more static compression you have, the bigger cam you need to keep the DCR in the pump gas range, and visa-versa. (7.5-8.4)

I’ve enjoyed the 212 grind in my 350 and in a 455. no experience with the other mentioned. Love the low end and always run pump gas.

I liked the 284-88H in my otherwise stock 455...fun to drive and sounded good enough that I'd turn off the radio at stoplights so I could listen to the engine

I run the 284 on my slightly modified 455. Th2004r and 3.73. Awesome cam. Sounds great. Tons of torques off the line. Pulls hard. All done by 5000 rpm. Love this cam, and my 455 is lower compression
