TA 1511 oil pan fitting with block girdle?

    Looking for some advice here. The 1511D oil pan hits the side of the girdle on the front cap only. I'm not crazy about beating on this pan and distorting it, and also not wanting to grind much on the girdle. Pan is up about 1/2" in the front. What have you guys with block girdles done? Have you ever used that pan and had it fit without mods? TA's catalog does say some mods may be necessary. Thanks.

    I remember back when JW was building my 470, he had me buy a Steve Reynolds pan offered for sale here on V8. I bought it and had it shipped to Jim. When Jim put it on my engine, he discovered the front rods were hitting the bottom of the pan. The pan I bought was for a motor with a girdle. It was not described that way by the seller, so Jim and I were unaware of it. Steve later made me a pan that works great. There is a marked difference in their appearance. Not sure I would want to modify the TA pan.

    I'm using the 1511D pan. It's a stock looking pan. I'm looking for someone who used that particular pan and what they did to make it fit.

    Try PMing Jim Weise. If it has been done, he has done it. Is this motor going into a Race car? The girdle + stock pan might create other clearance problems in the car?

    Steve,
    We sell that pan modified for a block girdle, TA 1511B. At the moment I can not remember what has been done to the front of it. I know a stock GM pan will fit the girdled. You may have to persuade the pan a bit around the from cap area. All that have run girdles have had to persuade the pan now and then to get them to fit. Installing a Steff's pan after spending $700 bucks has always been a pleasure as well.

    Just installed a Steve Reynolds pan on a customers aluminum 545 yesterday and that pan and I had to have a bit of a conversation. It totally understands now where was was meant to be. That was no more fun for me than it is for you, but it's done. We all try and build the parts the best we can but everything doesn't always get created equal.

    It seems like were cutting the lower front corners out and inserting new pieces that cleared the girdle. Steve can do that for you as well if you can't.
