Most pumps can be rebuilt for reasonable money

It is not likely that the pump has failed. Check fluid level first. The modulator diaphragm can go bad letting fluid to be pulled into the engine and burned. The filter is plugged, the pickup tube o ring has failed, the pressure relief valve is stuck open, or the pressure relief valve spring is broken. All of these can be checked with out removing the trans from the car.
I have switch pitch parts if you need any.
    Thanks, John

Not to sound ignorant, but did you put the pan back on and fill it with fluid before checking at the line?

You can get to pressure regulator assembly with the pan off......just takes a screw driver to push up and hold and snap ring pliers. You can push up from the bottom and if the spring has pressure it will push back.

I have seen several times on converters that are not spaced correctly that the drive lugs for the pump snap off.......when this happens the pump doesn't spin even though the converter is. New pump gears are pretty cheap if this is the case. Just need the correct thickness.

It's only 6 or 8 bolts in the pump to case.....and 5 bolts that hold the pump together.......just needs a big hose clamp to line the 2 halfs up correctly

You can purchase new pump gears for $20 As long as the pump housing / front cover is in good shape you will be good to go.

Looks like the gear is the issue, are the standard th400 gears the same?

That looks to be from a converter not spaced properly......if you have too much gap between the flex plate and converter lugs you will pull the converter back too far and not engage those tabs enough.......you might need some flat washers between the flexplate and converter lugs to keep the drive engaged better.

Check you converter snout to make sure its not damaged
