    Hi,

I was wondering about switching from conventional oil to synthetic oil in my wife's 2010 Mustang GT. Her uncle is saying it would be bad for the engine to switch from conventional to synthetic which I have never heard. What is the consensus here?

I have a 2006 Mustang I bought brand new, first oil change, switched over to Mobil 1. 105K, never had a problem. Also ran it in my V10 F-250, again 115K never changed a thing on the engine except 1 injector.

Switched to Mobil 1 in my '08 G8 GT at 5000 miles for the first oil change. Been running it ever since and now at 70,000 miles. No problems here.

I have heard however, that switching to synthetic in older, high mileage cars can cause the seals/gaskets to weep. :Do No:

My dad switched to synthetic in his '99 Suburban a few years back. That 350 has over 200,000 on it and he hasn't had any problems. He gets some "low friction" one put in to help with gas milages I suppose, he's worked in the Aviation fuels industry for 30 years so i'm sure he's got some good reason for the switch.

I would recommend it. We run Mobil 1 in the Mustangs and in the V-10. We change it every 5k miles.

oh, and drive that thing more. Jen has 2500 miles on the Boss already. :3gears:

Thanks everyone - I'll be switching to synthetic then:TU:

LOL Jason - you are right. I told Beth to take her Mustang out so she should be driving it around tomorrow while I'm at work.

    >>I'll tell her. The weather is supposed to be nice tomorrow as well which is a big plus for the cruise night.

When synthetic oil first came on the market there was a lot of skepticism, but after reading some articles I decided to try it. First in my everyday truck. You're probably familiar with the sound of that first startup on a cold winter morning (in my case that was Wisconsin), how it labors a bit to turn over. After my switch to Mobil 1 the truck turned over in the morning like it had already been warmed up. I've been using it ever since. BTW, my current truck has 260,000 miles on it, still doesn't burn oil and still has the same oil pressure as the day I got it. I'll never use any other oil in any of my vehicles.

It's a wise move. There are suttle differances in the synthetic world so don't hesitate to try different top brands.

We expect a full report after the first 1K.
