    Hi guys,

I will be using bucket seats and a console in place of my original bench seat. (67 GS). The attached pics shows the type of shifter I have now and the type of Hurst I want to switch to......this is the correct Hurst handle (5335) for a console, right?

I am assuming I will need to change to Hurst shifter rods. (like in the pic from The Parts Place) shifter rod.jpg Is there anything else I need to be aware of in terms of parts/mechanism? Thanks.

I am guessing either this is a dumb question that doesn't merit a reply or that nobody knows for sure?:Do No:

I'm assuming the pic on the left is the bench seat shifter?
Should be able to just switch the handle only.rods and shifter body will be the same.

Thanks Dan, The pic on the right with the shifter arms attached is the shifter I have currently (bench seat muncie). I want to swap to the one on the left.

That would be great if I could, but what about the lever lock that must be pulled up to shift into reverse? I think on the Hurst shifter, reverse i engaged by pushing in?

Maybe the Hurst shifter mechanism/handle and my current shifter arms then?

Not sure what shifter that is on the right.? But yes then you'll have to switch it all out.I think there's one for sale on here.

    Thanks Mark,

I didn't know that. Do you happen to know where I could get that bracket?

    Bracket is available repro.

The Competition Plus shifter mech and repro rods I think will work just fine on your Muncie. Im not too familiar with the pre 69 columns and what kind of reverse lockout linkage they had. On a 69 and up linkage, putting the car in reverse engaged the reverse lockout rod which rotated the bell crank and in turn rotated the column to reverse.

{Edit- 68 and earlier didn't have a locking column so was there even a need for additional linkage? No, right?]

Picture on the right, looks like a original 67 Muncie, unable to see the mounting, it should have 2, one down to the cross member with two bolts, and a arm that attaches from the body of the shifter, back to the body brace. If this is an original Buick 67 Muncie shifter from a bench seat car, then the handle is different thank a bucket seat handle.

The reverse lock out on 66/7 Muncie shifters was the T handle, you had to lift it before you could put the trance in reverse.

The shifter mount pictures in post #6 is OEM correct for 1966-69 Buick and Olds A-bodys...

The shifter rod kit from the parts place in post #1 is for 1967-68 Pontiac A-bodys only, won't work for Buick or Olds...

I have the OEM correct mount and shift rods and arms for 1966-68 Buick and Olds W/Muncie trans if you can't find them...

    Hope this helps... Crash crash_enterprises@yahoo.com
