Stroked 350

Actually the 350 would be a good candidate for de-stroking. It already has a long stroke.....which was done to reduce emissions.

A destroked motor will extend the possible hp in the upper rpms however that would require alot better heads.

Kinda like how a 327 Chevy (screamer) can often make more power than a 350 Chevy (torquer).

Well, this project will go to 370cid, I'll see how it works. Maybe try a destroke in another project down the road :Do No:

    I love this hobby!!!!

    LMAO! :beer

You do the 383 this time, I'll complete the 370.

So many choices, So little time.... It's a shame we gotta get old!

easy enough, throw in a 300 crank. but then you've just got a tall deck 300 with a hot spot between the center exhaust ports. :Dou:

The 300 crank has smaller mains than the 350 by .5 inch. A spacer would have to be fabricated. I was looking at grinding the rod journals to the smaller 1.88" honda size and using a SBC rod 6.6" long or using a custom piston with less compression height and a 7" rod.

That is the only way a 350 could be destroked without serious costs or machine work.

Before you go too far, look at how close the stock rods with stock crank are to the camshaft during rotation...

From what I've seen, heard, and has been said here earlier in the thread, the Buick 350 is just about all stroked out from the factory...Ain't much room left there...

Hate to see you waste all your money getting a crank reground and making Honda rods fit said crank, only to find out after you start assembling the motor that you can't even turn it over because the rods will hit the camshaft...

i was being facetious. also i was wrong. the 350 has a bigger bore than the 300, so if you threw a 300 crank into a 350 block you'd get something like a 305. a 340 block would give you a tall deck 300 ... just about as dumb as the Ford 351M.

but i would think most people would consider it really stupid to swap a 350 block in place of a 300 block just to get ~5ci. if you want to run a 300 crank either stay with the 300 or use a Rover 4.6L or 5.0L block. keep the smaller external dimensions of the Rover / 215 plus the light weight of the aluminum block plus you keep the individual exhaust runners ( ie - no hot spot in the center of the head ).

i'm pretty suresomeone how already done a stroked 350 with honda rods...not sure if it was more or less then 370 but it has been done.
I'm fairly sure Mike at ta will know the exact details

when going to a honda rod journal you off set grind the crank but you never really move the rod any closer to the cam. I know this works well because I have already done it with no interference issues my only issue is lack of over lap between main and rod and if the crank will stand up to the very small rod pin:Do No:

I wouldn't bet on Mike having the details I don't share that stuff with everyone and I don't think he has done it but give him acall he might have a idea. I think I am the first to do it I have never heard of anyone doing it we hope to be on the pump in a short time but it's my sons engine and he is the one doing the work and school and scouting is more important than an engine is right now but it will be ready soon

I guess I had missed that post looks like someone else has done it. I did just stroke a stock crank and we aren't trying to set any records with this thing just make goodstreet hp with it.

And we are happy to hear about your progress! Great work by you and Anthony! More details about the machinework would be cool.

I do not remember the guys name but this fellow that was making the high 600 hp range NA was using a Hogan intake and offered me a deal for his whole car and engines due to a divorce.... $20,000 was not in my price range at the time so I passed. This guy was in the 11s NA with a milder 13:1 engine about 550 hp if I remember right... Anyone remember who he is?

Another 350 that was stroked is Sonny Seals, I can call him to get more details.

He may not have the exact details on hand but he's heard of it/knows it, people have done it in the past and he explained to me how it works and what you gotta do. He also told me about how 20-25 years ago he knew a guy that took a Nailhead crank and put it in a 455 and would run the thing to 10,000 rpm :eek2: :3gears:

grrrrrr. this is really pissing me off.

what is the deal with Nailhead cranks running to 10,000rpm? we got so screwed with our cast cranks.
