I know this has been touched on before but I can't find it. I want to get rid of the stg.2 hood and put the stock GS hood back on. My only problem is the T/A sp1 intake,1"spacer (witch I know will have to go),and the 1050 dominator sitting on top the motor. Has anyone ran or is running this setup with a stock hood and if so some input and pics would be much help. Thanx

On our red car when the 464 and spx was in it, we had to get the lowest drop base we could find, and grind on it to get everything to clear, then had to measure the element area and get as much as we could, which wasn't much. Used a K&N filter top. Even had to grind the hood braces.

Air cleaner lid still touched hood and scratched it up, but that was the best we could do.

I'm trying to keep form grinding on the hood and would like to install some type of cold air pickup system.

You can contact Universal Spinners in Canada (416-299-4009) I bought one of there dominator drop bases for my car. It takes a 15" filter (I cant remember what height the filter is, I would have to measure) and I would recommend you get a k&n top as well. It fits under my stock hood with no cutting of the hood, but is as close as you can possibly get with out hitting. I have Street eliminator heads with an spx intake. I dont know there web site off hand but I'm sure you can google it and find it.Specter performance make a air box that you can run air hoses to your headlights if my memory serves me correct. They have the dimensions on it but not sure if it will fit under the hood or not, you would have to check. If I remember its like 3" tall. Oh yea be prepared for sticker shock none of this is cheap. Hope this helps.

Thanks Drew. As long as I have been playing with cars nothing sticker shocks me anymore. We r like fish in a barrel when it comes to the hot rod aftermarket. If they have what u want ur gona pay for it which is fine as long as it works.

i know this bothered me alot but i had the same set up in my stage1. i had the stage2 scoop also. but went back to original just what your looking to do. i used a half inch spacer and no air cleaner. it drove me nuts but i never had a problem. the carb was just about hitting the hood but again never had an issue with street driving.

Mike are you looking for a bolt on hood or a pin on / Dzus style? I can make you a pin on now, I just made the mold for the frame work under the hood to use the factory hinges and latch. hopefully I'll be testing that model before the end of March. It'll be a little money than the pin on style and a little heavier. This is the pin on one.

Going to be doing the final touch up on the underside bracing mold this weekend and prep it for lay up. Next weekend, lay up the bracing, then a hood and bond them together!

    Mike,

What did you end up doing?

Nothing yet Bob. Thinking of going the route that Bluzilla went and fab up a ram air spoiler under the bumper and run some duct work up to a custom made air pan. I will have to get rid of the 1" carb spacer to make this work. All as I know this R&D stuff is very tedious.

If you look at the picture, the corners don't quite line up. Because of this I'm making a new mold. This time I used a steel hood for the base to ensure the edges along the fender and the corners line up properly. I have to sand this plug one more time and coat it Monday. Then pull the new mold off of it. The new hoods will be going out this summer. I also have the mold already made for the underside bracing that will allow me to offer a lift off lightweight version as well as one that used the stock hinges and latch. The extra time and expense I've put in will be worth it when you see the production product. As a side not, when I redid the plug, I squeezed out about another 1/2" clearance by raising the center a little more without it looking to bulbous.

I found a source for a 2" Dominator drop-base. If I mocked everything up correctly, an SPX and 4500 with a 3" filter will fit under a stock GS hood. Hopefully it won't be too restrictive. I have an X-Stream lid too. I'm going to order the base on Monday.

Cool Bob keep me posted if works. It shouldn't be that restrictive. I see many guys running stock hoods on chevys with this kindof setup running in the mid to high 10's. The only difference is they have a stock cowl hood. If it works with a GS hood that will be awesome.

Mike, I have too much time and money wrapped up in this to quit now! By Monday, the plug will be coated and hopefully I'll start laying up the final mold the next week. Haven't set a price in stone, but it will be comparable to other hoods. I'd have to sell 10 hoods to make back the money in materials so far, but it's getting this thing rolling that is my motivation! Lift off hood, bolt on hood, 70 front & rear bumpers and what ever is interesting after that! Oh yeah, I have a mold for a 25' or 27' Baja sport boat windscreen, but that's for another forum
