I have a set of 5 on 5 steel wheels from a 1966 LeSabre 400 that i want to run the dog dish caps on. Does anyone know if repro clips are made for these? Or does anyone have a picture of the clips so i know what i'm searching for? Thanks in advance.

I did not know threre were clips...they usually snap on over the nubs on the steel rims...is that a old style set up?

I didn't even know they used dog dishes except on cop cars, and those were popped over the pressed in nubs on the rim. I've only heard of special clips on deluxe Oldsmobile full-dish caps they used from about 62-65.
My 46 Super had dog-dishes on it, and they were snapped in, friction fit on the rim.

Pic of the wheels I have with 5" bolt pattern that I removed from a '66 LeSabre 400. And a pic of the hub caps I believe should go on this wheel. It has no nubs like a typical "snap on" cap so there should be some kind of clip??? Maybe these are not Buick wheels? Or maybe they are early Buick wheels? i have seen pics of a '66 LeSabre with these hubcaps but i have no idea what wheel was used. i assumed the wheels i have were original to the car i took them off of.

No, they aren't early rims, they're generic GM. I think the clips they would have used in those style rims would have been spot-welded in place. Look for Chev rims that are the same bolt pattern.

I've never seen dog dishes like that on a full-size Buick; - only on police car recreations.

Do you know if the hubcaps I have pictured are used with this style of rim or do they go with a rim that has the typical nubs on it? I appreciate the help. I'd like to run those style caps but, I guess I need to know what rims I need before I buy anything.

This is the picture i saw, whether or not those caps and rims came on the car originally I don't know but, that is the wheel and cap I would like to run on my Wildcat. The wheels I have were free so if they aren't the wheels I need then no big deal.

The style of cap looks very similar to the design off of my old 46; - the cap was held on by clips and the cap was sort of inset in the centre donut of the rim, and not over it like the one with the nubs would have. The last time I ever saw that same rim with that kind of clips and cap would have been on a 55 Police car knock-off. I saw that style of rim used into the mid to late sixties, without the clips. So I'm sorry, I don't have a good answer for you if someone makes those things aftermarket; - you might want to try some outfit like CARS or Fusick Automotive; they are sources for some obscure parts and bits like that.

Gonna search the old junkyards for at least a similar wheel with a clip still on it. I actually had two of the caps I want to use but that was before I owned a full size car and I sold them. You are right about the way the cap attaches, has to use clips of some kind. I may try buying random clips on eBay and then try to make some myself if I find the right ones. I'm in no hurry, I'll figure it out eventually. Thanks for the input.

The dog dish does belong to that wheel. I have same wheel and dog dish on my 1964 lesabre. Clips are hard to find. Try eBay seller bestoffercounts. Good luck.

Found a full set of clips at a junkyard in the middle of Nebraska. The wheels were off a '64 LeSabre. I had to rummage around to find two of the wheels and two were still on the car. The clips just snap into the slots. If anybody wants me to share pics of the clips I will. Thanks for the input.

I have the same wheels on my Riv but caps are form what i believe 75 Electra. I had to make me a set of custom clips from stainless rod and screw them to wheel.

    Hey Brian,

I have the same rims on my 65 Wildcat and would like to see how the clips look like. Maybe you can post some pics of that clips from different angles. I guess I'll have to make some for myself.
