My Cobra buddy just told me what "FE" stood for- $%^&*$# expensive! That engine would sure look purdy with a set of those Blue Thunder reproduction finned aluminum valve covers:TU:
This is certainly more expensive than a 460 (385 series in Ford talk) BUT-with an aluminum water pump, ford starter & alternator, it weighs 510 lbs-a 460 with alum heads/etc is 675ish. AND it was less expensive than the Buicks in my past, apples to apples. IF I ever do another Buick, (and I may) I am just gonna have JW build it. even more expensive, but worth every penny. as well as a 2x4 medium riser or tunnel port set up-maybe someday, when money grows on trees again...sigh...
Plus, a 460 just looks out of place in those early Fairlane/Comet engine bays. Like lookin' at naked pictures of your sister, it's just Not Right! Ford FE territory for sure. You made the right choice going with the FE. Mike
What a testament to the guys on this board. Zero bashing. Try starting a thread like this on a camaro board and see how long it takes for some punk to rip you. Beautiful ride Scott. Beautiful character Buick guys. Steve
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What a testament to the guys on this board. Zero bashing. Try starting a thread like this on a camaro board and see how long it takes for some punk to rip you. Beautiful ride Scott. Beautiful character Buick guys. It is a revealing look at both internet policies and the quality of people on a given (THIS) board. The owner/operators of this board have never tolerated much bs outside of thier rules, and thier rules are not restrictive at all, but demand mutual respect from members. While there are dozens of members here who know me from my cross country trip in 04 with my SKylark, there are also hundreds of other, newer members who don't know me, but still accept the boards happy inclusion of other marques and racers through this bench and the other threads from racing. That is the class of this boards members and this marques (Buicks) owners. I still love all things Buick but can only afford one at a time, money and time wise. This board has been and always will be my internet home. Thanks for the props guys, and the tolerance as I wander a bit into blue oval land.................
Scott, you rule on so many levels too. You're ok in my book because I own a '67 FE powered Ford too =P *Oh, and if you are looking at my OHC Pontiac thread, you'll see some fender mirror on the ground behind the engine. Got those courtesy of Scott for my Skylark =D
holidays have been good to me time wise-engine/trans installed, mostly wired, lots of little stuff done...still need rear gears, driveshaft, shifter, radiator, different front springs, fuel lines. maybe driving by summer if I make any money this spring
Looking real great Scott!:beer :beer There's something about having an FE engine stuffed into one of these cars. :TU:
Looks like the front springs that are in there now sure don't like the weight of that FE! Even with all the aluminum goodies. What springs do you think you will use? Mike
welll-I believe the po cut a couple coils off the 289 springs and stuck em back in. Car had 24 inch firestone front drag tires on it-my neighbor gave me a bitching new set of MT et drags, 27.5s and they are definitely too tall for the ride height, but more like where I want to wind up, tire wise so --I ordered up a set of stock moog front springs for a 390 gt and we will se what they do for us. might get em in by friday, then install them on the weekend,we will see. I am going to have to bring the car home soon, taking up room and time at the shop, but I want to get all the "heavy lifting" done this trip if I can.
Very nice! Love that body style. I have an FE powered 66 Fairlane GT - 428, Edelbrock heads, mild solid roller, etc. In paint jail now. Here's a pic of my other Fairlane - '67 hardtop with a 514. Dynoed at 796 hp (13.5:1, big solid roller, dominator, etc). My street/strip ride.
wow-hard to believe it has been since January since I posted in here-but-it has been a long 9 months. Those who know me over on Bangshift already know my wife and I live at different addresses since July, work is busy, 10 yo turned 11, etc etc-BUT-the Ford may run this week or next. Recent progress includes throttle linkage/return springs, fan/spacer/belt finished, fuel lines on, fuel pump wired and switched, working on shifter now. Maybe next week to start the FE for the first time in the car!
