I believe your numbers are correct! 16 hardtop, and 1 convertible with 3 speed Muncie M-13.

Gateway's M.O. is to put a high number on the car and leave it there until they either lose the consignment, or are about to. Then magically the price is very negotiable. Any stock # that has an "R" at the end indicates it has been returned to the customer. I have dealt with them for a long time.

This is an interesting thread about the 1970 3 speed manual GS Stage 1 that was for sale at Gateway Classics. It is no longer there. I purchased the car in Jan of this year. I also talked them down and did not pay the asking price for it. It is 1 of 16 three speed manual hardtops but is also actually 1 of 4 three speed manual cars with a factory tilt wheel. Considering the color and other options, it may actually be 1 of 1, but Buick did not keep enough records for me to fully verify. Also, as stated in this thread, there were a few cosmetic mistakes with the car that I have already had corrected. The mismatch fender has been repainted and properly blended. A brand new Stage 1 emblem has replaced the crooked emblem on the fender. The proper GS emblem has been installed on the trunk and the ugly tailpipes have been removed. The tailpipes are now properly tucked underneath the rear bumper. I have had many offers to buy it and it steals the show everytime I take it to a Cruise Night. I recently had a thorough appraisal done and it appraised out at 98K. I am glad many people found discrepancies with the car and did not purchase it. It is a very rare car and has definitely been my gain.

Congrats Michael. Sounds like you were able to get the car for a fair price relative to it’s condition at the time. Would love to see pics of the car now.

STAGE III Lost Experimental 455-4 Bolt Main Block.

    Congratulations on your purchase Michael!

There’s nothing I like more than something that hardly any buddy else has! I enjoyed my time with the experimental FourBolt X block time and motor that Denny Manner made and several other rare things.

I actually have one of those Muncie super duty three speed 1970 transmissions! A friend committed to buy it for his misrepresented stage one convertible four speed which turned out to be a standard 455 car with the heavy duty three speed that someone put the stage one badges and the four-speed in and ditched the original heavy duty three speed. This thing has low miles it has all the original painted production Yellow markings on it and I still am in awe of it every time I look at it if you’d like to see some pictures of it hit me up in my private message box with your email or phone number and I’ll send you pictures. No money has exchanged hands but it is spoken for unfortunately but as far as getting information you’re not gonna get a lower miles original looking one to match your car up with if yoursDoes not have the correct transmission in it. Very excited for you that is a awesome find I mean real awesome!!!
Still can clearly see the yellow stencil codes clearly! Cool stuff at least to me:)

I agree Fritz, I'm 3-speed daft. Love the cars that have the odd combos and this 70
is a winner in my book.

    Micheal-Congrats on the car.

Welcome & Congratulations! Glad you were able to get it and get the paint corrected. That's not always an easy proposition. Sounds like it wound up in good hands (of course as a past time we scrutinize the ones for sale). You've got a super rare car. It'd be great to bring it to the GS Nationals next year.

I picked up a nice Muncie 3 speed complete with shifter, linkage and back shift linkage not long ago. Great transmissions

I want to thank everyone for the congratulations and compliments on my purchase. It was really a tough decision for me to purchase the vehicle with the few flaws that it had, but with some sound advice from fellow friends who also own antique cars, I decided to purchase it and make the necessary corrections. It has turned out to be a sound investment and I am really enjoying the car. I plan to keep it completely original and hopefully put in in MCACN in November and take it to the GS Nationals next year. Thanks again everyone.

    Congrats! Beautiful car.

I am curious as to how you obtained the info about the car being 1 of 4 three speed manual cars built with a tilt wheel. I don’t believe I have ever seen production numbers regarding options like tilt. If there’s a reference I don’t know about, I’d enjoy seeing it.

I had a copy of my original window sticker created by a well known Buick aficionado. Due to the nature of his business creating window stickers he has a lot of detailed info on Buick production numbers.

I am looking to bring it.to the GS Nationals next year. I just took it the Buick Nationals in June and it won a Senior Gold Award. I am working on the details of getting everything correct and I am also looking to take to MCACN in Nov.
