Now that we have Ken Montour's high powered ,STAGE 2, Aluminum block 530" up and running. We figured we needed a decent hood scoop to supply air to the Dual Holley Dominators. Didn't like ANY of the generic hood scoops available. And didn't want the bread box scoop look. We got ambitious here at the shop and "made our own" molds for STAGE 2 Hood Scoops. Figuring Ken's GS will see street duty along with going to the track. We wanted to keep the BUICK "look" and also keep it more street looking since his GS has an interior and exhaust and sees street duty too. So, we made the molds for THREE different versions. An exact reproduction of the Stage 2 scoop. A medium height version . And a tall boy version for Ken's hood. We can now make all three types of these sccops "in house "at our shop. Here's a couple of pictures of Ken GS with the Tallest version of the STAGE 2 Scoop. You can still see the twin dominators. But for the most part. They can see what's under the hood, when Ken drives out to the cruises !!

I think Ken is going to have problems with birds:eek:. What is the height of the middle one?

Looks mean!! Are you planning on selling these scoops since you now have the molds? I might be interested in a medium height one to clear my carb hat!

We made the molds using a couple of original NOS STAGE 2 Hood scoops that Jim Bell gave us several decades ago. That we still have. We can make all three height versions in house now. And the quality and finish exceeds the originals. I know the tall version looks like a monster. But no choice, dual Dominators NEED and require the CFM it provides. The medium height would fit Ken's car and clear the Dominators. But function over rules. Thinking of offering them. We are making several now for some folks. We will have to figure out something, in the way of production, because we already have so much work in the shop in the way of projects and engine builds. That it leaves little time to make the scoops.

Any pictures of the medium scoop,or the difference between the original and medium as far as how much taller? I am right at or near the limit of a regular Stage2 scoop.

Making another tall version for someone right now. Have the molds made for the medium scoop. But didn't make one yet. Not easy to find the time to make it. But will eventually.

Was the 530 dyno tested? If so what were the numbers?

Engine has had a number of Dyno pulls. The results of the first rounds were published in the GX XTRA. Discovered then that the header tubes were too small, Stage 2 "street headers" and that the combo wanted bigger carbs. It has had several significant changes in the way of big tube headers and larger carbs. And a few other changes. It is making a lot more power now. I will see if we can configure the latest numbers.

You got that right !! We used to go to the Nationals every year, for decades, bringing two or three of our own cars showing and racing them. Now a days the shop is full of customer's projects, and having so much work, there is no time, or space in the shop to work on our own cars. And that does not look like it is going to change any time too soon. And that is why it is so difficult to find the time to make the scoops. We will have to get around to making the medium version of the STAGE 2. And when we do, we will put up some pictures of it. BTW we had some "STAGE 2" stickers made. Ken's scoop has them on both sides of the scoop now. Not shown in the above pictures.

They are made with Fiberglass like the Kenne Bell originals. Out source isn't practical. There would be a minimum quantity required. And it would more than the amount needed. There isn't a demand for that many.

My Stage 2 scoop is 4” tall in front and I may not be able to run it with my duel quad crossram intake.
What is the height of the medium hood scoop and price?

As expected, interest would probably be for the most in the medium scoop. Still exploring ways to get the scoops made, within a reasonable time frame. As mentioned, outsourcing would probably involve making more than there would be a demand for. We can make then in house and the quality be best. It would have to be a side project. I think at this point the best thing for us to do is make several scoops as circumstances permit and them put up pictures and specifications. And take it from there.

If you outsource, try SpoolFool. He's the one making and selling the 84-7 Regal fiberglass bumper fillers at the Nats. Really good product. Maybe you could work out a deal and he could help you out. Keep it in the Buick community.

Thanks for the suggestions. Going to make a medium height scoop in house. And post some pictures and specs when we get around to it. And explore options and take it from there.
