Looks like my Stage 1 fuel pump may have gone south. I have access to an original NOS Stage 1 pump in the original box for $120 or the TA Performance Stage 1 pump for $50. Anyone got anything to say about the TA pump for a 450-500 HP street build? (good or bad).
I think you will be better off with the Robb Mc pump. You are on the edge with the Stage1 pump unless you run a pusher pump.
You may be right, Larry. However, I still want some feedback on an NOS stage 1 pump vs the TA performance Stage 1 pump.
I understand Ray, you may need to wait awhile for that. Not sure many guys have made a back to back comparison that way. I guess your fuel pressure test revealed a problem with your current pump?
No, I have all the parts but still need to remove the stock fuel line Carb to fuel pump, take out a section and have it flared to accept the rubber lines to the nipples of the adapter. I also have the Summit steel line and the gauge you recommended. I plan to leave the adapter in place for future use and maybe a fuel filter.
If you have your heart set on a factory style pump, AC Delco and Airtex still make Stage 1 pumps. They average about $30
I'd love to save the extra money but, I'm told that the original Stage 1 (NOS) pumps put out about 7 psi while the aftermarket pumps only 5-5 1/2. Any truth to this to your knowledge?
If I have time this weekend, I'll try and take a fuel pressure reading on the beater. Its got an Airtex one on there.
I'd also like to hear some feedback from TA mechanical pump owners. My build is centered around the 500HP 550TQ numbers, so I would also be on the edge of the mechanical pumps capability. Didn't really want to convert to electric, but I'm open to it, if there is no mechanical options. On another note... how much HP can the stock steel fuel line support? At what point do I need to consider upgrading? -6 Or -8 Or??
Here is one mechanical option, http://www.robbmcperformance.com/products/buick550.html Another is the CV Products pump I use. That pump is close to 500.00 though. You can also run an electric pusher pump back near the tank in conjunction with the Stage 1 pump.
