This I know is an old question but I have been out of the loop for quite a while so..........on a 700-800 horsepower motor, which manifold have you found to work best, the TA SP1 or the SPX? Not out of the box, but fully optimized?

    I like the SPX.

I'm only guessing but 700-800, are you using tall port heads? SPX won't work with tall without modifing it, its standard port only.Chris

Chris, no I have been running the Stage 2 Street Eliminator heads, not the Tall ports.

You might want to pm Gary Kubish. I remember him using both on his car and ended up with similar results. His engine make some steam..

SPX gets my vote. Besides other benefits, those two extra fittings under the plenum are worth a few hundredths! :Brow: (Yes, I proved it on my own car)

    Have fun.

    Jeff,
Yes I know what you mean. Prior to the ability to pump ice water "through" the manifold as with the Kenne Bell coolrunner (and now SPX) I always carried a 120 quart ice chest with me to the track. I was curious if through the years there were dyno tests, track tests just manifold to manifold wihout any cold water plumbing to differentiate any performance gains.

I made a pass w/ the SP1 at Norwalk then changed to my Wildcat.
ET and MPH showed no significant difference.
Both runs were within an hour or so,I would consider that back to back.

I like the looks of the SPX/Wildcat better..........

For what it's worth,The SP1 was on my car when it 9.40's and Gary Laughlin went 9.40's w/ a Wildcat.

I guess the bottom line is,If you have one of the two,It's not worth changing to the other........

Out of the box,mano-a mano, the ol KB wildcat was better by .04 and .5 mph.
Never did a comparison with ported ones.

I've got a new Wildcat that I plan to make use of the water cavity. Keith, I'm sure you've been to No Problem Raceway so you know what I mean. A mile from the sun and 100% humiditiy.:af:

Absolutely! Cooling the intake will defintely help! No Problem Raceway is a great facility except the way the pit area is set up (my opinion). You have to drive your car a mile to get in the staging lanes! OK, maybe I am exagerating a little......

Gary, your car still looks great!!

I personally think both intakes would be close. I don't plan on being at 700+ hp, yet:Brow: , but I think the SPX/Wildcat would pull a little better over 6500. But, I think it would give up a little down low also on a lower compression motor like mine. The water cavity is the plus to me.

    From a JW post:

PS.. running cool water under the intake, and cooling it to around 90*, would pick up another 10 HP and Ft/bs.. we have tested that too..

Why stop at 90*? :Brow: Ice water! :TU: I've tested that, too!

    Gary,
Your manifold changes at the track, were they both stock, both ported or ? I agree, I like the looks of the SPX best.

Both ported to match my SE's.
Thanks for the compliment above,Hopefully I can continue to improve it.

Keith, didn't you have an older version of the SP1 on the Sunset engine of yesteryear? The lastest version of the SP1 is much improved.

    Bob,
Yes, I bought the SP1 back in 94. I guess it must be the old version.

I run an early SP1 myself. Can anyone elaborate regarding the specific improvements on the later versions?

Castings are much better/uniform on the later versions, needing less porting/cleanup.
