I'm sure this has been asked before but I'm going to ask it again. Does anyone like Moroso are ? make solid Engine mounts for the Buick 455 engine? Its a race only car so vibration is not a issue. I'm not interested in a motor plate. Thanks

    Ready or not?

I've been following another thread on this site that says the poly mounts for a 455 are not ready for release yet. Thats why I was looking to go the solid mount route. I knew the v/6 were available. I've got a friend who is a fabricator and will see if he can make me some up if no one comes up with a source, and evidently there is no source.

    Hi Guys,

Larry.....it's my humble opinion that solid motor mounts for a thin walled BBB's IS NOT the way to go! You need some "give" between the block and the frame or else you are looking at unexplained ring blow-by from distorting the cylinders directly behind the mounting pads, not to mention cracking of the block in general. With the poly mounts not being available yet then one of two other choices are MUCH BETTER...

    (1) new regular rubber mounts with either a torque strap (like the V6's use) or a limiting chain with ever-so-slight slack...

    or

    (2) a motor plate OR plates (like "elephant ears"), one coming off of each head and going down to a mount welded to the frame. With the "ears" you will still use rubber mounts too. These "ears" will spread the load into the heads and be evenly distributed thruout the block and not concentrate it in any one spot lessening the chances of cracks or other distortions.

    Good luck!:)

    Rubber mounts it is

Ok I'm sold on the rubber mounts and strap. I'm used to working with Big/small block chevy's motors. This Buick stuff is all new to me but I'll get it eventually. Problem being, how much money (parts, etc) will I go through before I learn enough. Thats why I ask so many questions on this site. Thanks for the info

What is anyone using to strap your motor to the frame? I have used everything from chain to a turnbuckle in the past.:Do No:
