I get 50 with my little Ford escort diesel so 34 is not impressive at all.I suppose the diesel verson of one of these would do real good too though.......
I can give you the figures for the Smart diesel, but you have to work out the conversion yourself
(welcome to the standard of the world)

City: 3,5 litre/100 KM
Outside city: 3,2 litre/100 KM

Overall:

30.3 KM on 1 litre of diesel.

I saw one on our motorway here many month ago. It was side swiped by a semi that changed lanes and didnt see it. All the sheetmetal down the LHS was missing, but the car was in god shape. Cant say the same for the trailer the car was towing. That was flat.

I think they should include a barrier test just like this on 100% of the production vehicles prior to leaving the plant. In fact, they should hire Rosie O'Donnell as the test driver.

Think we said the same thing about the first Beetles in the 60's, the first Jap cars in the 70's, Korean cars in the 80's, Chinese in the 90's, and now this Algoremobile. Not sure where Rosie was back then.......

History will repeat itself again. Bend over. By the time it's settled out with gas well over $5 per gallon, our transportation costs will be the same as today. We'll just drive a lot less, somehow.......:Do No: That'll still make them happy. Now they can buy more carbon credits.

Wonder how one of them would do crossing the Mackinaw Bridge in a significant cross wind? Last P.O.S. like this didn't do so well.

I came upon a little car under the back of a semi last Friday night near here. Another truck rammed it up under there. EMS (or hearse) had already left, cops were still there with the three vehicles.

I dream of gas at $5 a gallon!!!!!!!! We currently pay $9 per U.S. gallon.

The Smart routinely does over 60+ to the gallon, yes 60, not 35 as mentioned

My wife is on her second Smart, the blue cabriolet is our latest.

For your amusement her first is pictured next to her 1970 Wildcat.

It is 10'6" shorter, and will fit between the wheelbase with 2' to spare.

A perfect mix, and she loves them both. But the Buick that little bit more.:3gears: :3gears:

The money she saves on gas with the Smart she can spend on gas for the Buick when we go to shows.
16 Imp. gallons in the Buick is $154!!!:dollar: :dollar: :dollar:

As regards safety they are excellent, have a friend who went into a ditch, rolled it twice, and walked away. The car was scrap.

The Tridion safety cell is great, and it has 4 airbags

It is 45cu.in, as opposed to 455 for the Buick.

I hope the day never dawns where you have to drive a Smart car because of the price of gas, because that will take the edge of my holidays in America.:beer

Too many Wildcats,SUV's, etc on the road for me to get into one of those suitcases.

Looking at those pictures makes me wonder what the thing would look like if it was at a stoplight behind the Wildcat, and a Suburban rear ended it at 45mph? I bet somebody wouldn't walk away from that.

I think gas prices wouldn't be as objectionable if there was any alternative other than driving your car. Car pools may be OK for going to work with people all on the same schedule, but never worked for me since I never knew what time I'd get out of there each day (or evening in many cases). Out our way in the city, you'd better have a CCW to ride public transportation, and there don't seem to be any going where I would want to go, which is definitely not into or around the city.

Mass transportation would be great, but all attempts at that seem only to get federal monies which get squandered away in some useless "study" (year after year) or another inner city project with empty buses and the worst thing yet, Detroit's "People mover". Nobody wants tax increases for anything right now.

I about tailpiped a Prius on I-96 the other day when one pulled right in front of me from an on ramp then putzed along at 35 mph under the speed limit until she could get over to the high speed lane (which was even faster) to get on her cell phone. They'd better be safer than anything else if they're going to get driven like that, intentionally or not.
